I’ve seen people call this film soulless. I happen to disagree. Is Tony Stark’s sense of humour soulless? Despite his existential dread? Quill’s silent love for Gamora? Fearing the loss you refuse to feel again? Wanda’s unlikely connection with Vision? Finding home on alien soil? Spidey’s impulsion to help despite risk? Altruism over self preservation? Thanos’ motivation? Embracing the dark as an invitation to the light? And ultimately, when evil proposes; good will align to reject it. And that is testament to soul. Remember, it’s based on a comic book. If you forgive my reductive hyperbole, it’s akin to saying Love Actually doesn’t have enough fight scenes. It’s a spectacle. And a good one at that. It provides what it seeks to deliver. The film exists confidently as a thread within the tapestry of cinematic history, whether you like it or not. Is it a perfect film? No. But is it soulless? Absolutely not.
