Spectre
Far and away the best Bond film yet.
Great homages to Bonds Past, while maintaining the high quality we've come to know with Craig Bonds -- from the Cold Open, mountain tech haven (Majesty's Secret Service), Vodka Martinis, Spectre, Blofeld. his cat and scar, souped-up Aston Martin, watches, emphasis on espionage over brute force, one-liners, elaborate death plans that fall short, Bond immediately sleeping with his murder victim's widow -- the whole gambit.
Starting with a classic Bond Cold Open, with the slow build and scene setting. Followed by an intense action sequence, with sniping, explosions, a cultural parade, in-flight helicopter fight (with an external fistacuffs, of course). But the barrel rolls might be new!
Not much new creativity in chase scenes. Luxury car chase in the Roman streets played more like a car show than a battle -- neither really tried to attack the other or damage a car for what felt like 10 minutes... Airplane vs. Car chase in the mountains was fun. Boat vs. Helicopter fight along the river was short and sweet.
I know it's hard to make a song called "Spectre," but it would have been nice to see them try to weave it in! For old time's sake.
Q is back with a sick Aston Martin (and naturally, a watch). Hinx is fun muscle. Good storyline with Bond Girl: forced into the shit, badass to back it up, genius, attitude, actual depth of character... top-tier Bond Girl Surprisingly M isn't two-faced?
I was curious who would be cast as Blofeld, and was genuinely excited when Christoph Waltzed into the Spectre meeting. Amazing casting. And he executed beautifully. Perfection.
