Sentimental Value
Goddddd Joachim man
I saw similarities to worst person in the world (this is rather obvious because he directed it lol but both films deal with very different topics and in both he did so very gracefully) in the pacing, the natural feel of time moving forward. I appreciated how the narrated part, which should feel rather infantile, acted as shedding light on the house and oh my god that HOUSE has so much history and character and energy to it.
I really enjoyed the fact you would think Nora is the main character at first but actually it delves into all three characters, her plus Agnes plus Gustav. The dynamic between the sisters and then both daughters separately with the dad was so interesting in that both girls grew up in the same atmosphere, but it’s not caricatured as a result of two extreme opposites. They subtly deal with relationships differently which I find so interesting and also very realistic.
I’ve already said this for worst person in the world but the dialogue is really brilliant, it doesn’t feel on the nose but still effectively deals with important feelings (repressed) in a really moving way.
It’s not baiting you to cry or feel bad which I think is definitely an indicator that the story is great. You’re just moved because… it’s moving! And real and you care about the characters.
Rec 100% but I was already sure I was going to love it.
