The only word I can use to describe this movie is visceral. The build up to the bombs dropping themselves is one thing, but the aftermath is harrowing, and done incredibly well. The showing of rotten corpses, people with radiation poisoning, it’s a lot, but as it should be. The portrayal of society breaking down is really well done too. This movie would’ve scared me shitless in the 80s, knowing how close we were to that reality. i knock off a star because the “storyline” was lackluster, and the ending audibly made me say “what the fuck”. It’s a well done and “realistic” portrayal of an alternate reality, but pretty bad story.
