I went in already with huge expectations and an admiration for Lanthimos’ work, yet I was still blown away. Jesse Plemons as an impoverished paranoid conspiracy theorist who has had everything taken from him and Emma Stone as a ruthless corporate girlboss both excel in their roles, and their conflict is peak unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. But beyond that, its a conflict that seems to underscore the chaos of 2025 that consumes life today. People left to suffer and die in the name of profit turn to odd avenues to make sense of it all. This impact is underscored by incredible visuals and refined filmmaking to make this easily one of Lanthimos’ best efforts yet.
