Sicko
I’m not really a documentary person. I respect the artform but as someone who bases a lot of what they watch on premise alone I probably wouldn’t have given this a watch had it not been assigned viewing for one of my Sociology classes. I saw the idea of sitting through a 2 hour documentary only slightly better than sifting through the textbook. I even contemplated running the movie at a speed as fast as comprehensible to get it over quicker. But for a movie about such a serious topic this movie is chalk full of genuinely well done humor and moments that will make someone who thought they had few tears left to cry get all watery in the eyes. It truly takes you to the depths of hell and brings you back more knowledgeable but not full of dread.
Moore's tone works equally for both sides of the emotional spectrum as even when he's poking fun at the subject matter his sincerity always shows through and brings much needed levity in tackling the brutal realities of the healthcare system.
