nothing happens at the end of this movie. this movie is about this persons life highlighting the best and the worst with his family until he eventually becomes an adult. one of the last lines of patricia arquette’s character summarizes this feeling when she says “i just thought there would be more” this simple statement leaves a very realistic emptiness after following this persons life through 12 years and just being left with that. the thesis of this film comes to you during the credits after bearing someone’s life in emotional detail. it leaves you with a feeling, outlook, and somewhat of an answer on the question our main guy asks near the end, the meaning of all of this.
