Hope is an act of defiance Hope is a refusal to succumb to the despair of the world. And hope is the readiness to fight tooth and nail for that protest. Hope without fight is mere vain optimism. And Andy Dufresne is the purest embodiment of that. Wrongly convicted, thrown into Shqwshank, brutalized and degraded, and he never once lets the prison have his mind. He plays Mozart over the loudspeakers. He builds a library. He ge ets the inmates highschool degrees. He does other men's taxes. Small, deliberate acts of beauty, often at his own expense, inside a machine designed to crush beauty out of a person. But the film understands something deeper than just hope good, despair bad. It gives us Red. A man who has survived Shawshank by the complete opposite of what Andy does. By making peace with it, by institutionalizing himself so completely that the walls feel like home. Red doesn't lack hope, he's buried it because hope is the most dangerous thing you can carry in a place that will always disappoint you. Hoping and being failing will kill you slower than giving up. What Shawshank argues is that Red is wrong. Red is not stupid or not weak. just wrong. That the risk of hope, the vulnerability of it, is worth carrying even when everything tells you to put it down. Hope is worth every price you pay for it. It is worth crawling 500 yards through shit and piss. It is worth digging for 19 years. It is worth months in solidarity. I hope. Dragged on a bit at the start I thought

I am so fricking disappointed βΉοΈ I mean it's not bad... It's just such an aggressively mediocre CBM, bordering on bad. And maybe that would've been okay a couple years ago but now, with all the superhero fatigue, it's not worth watching imo. I mean I love CBMs, trust me I do, but coming off of the soaring highs of superman, and being produced by Gunn, I was really expecting something closer to it.

Lol okay cool

No. Fuck you you ruined my favorite book. Boo ππππππππππ
