Bring Her Back
what makes this scary is the mother’s desperate, haphazard and pitiful attempt at recreating the ritual. the presence (or absence) of the cult, how laura acquired the tapes, the specifics of the ritual, none of it matters because she believes that it can work. it feels like she’s literally just making it up as she goes, and ultimately fails. that frantic and fanatic depiction of refusing to accept loss, discarding whoever is unnecessary or just in the way, is a lot scarier than what could have been explained by learning more about the cult.
also “untouched” by the veronicas?! five stars for that entire scene alone
