Jesus Camp
I really wish I could feel the horror that many felt when watching this. I really would like to.
In the Christian religion, when someone "converts" to Christianity, it's believed that they were reborn, that their former self is dead, and that they are now a saint. It feels more like being dead in life.
What Becky said is true. Children in churches are evangelized a lot because they know it's an age that will define their lives, and they instill so much guilt in them that it's obviously something that stays with them forever. I've seen children cry at camps, I've seen children on the floor, I've heard pastors say they are sinners. They say such horrible things that they always end up "justifying" with the Bible, and I've seen lives ruined just because of the guilt they carry throughout it. This documentary is not normal and is something that is happening and will continue to happen. It's the same after years, it's completely the same, and it's scary that it won't change. And it's scary that you're used to seeing this because it's not right, and it never will be. Seeing those children talk And acting in that way and feeling like it's normal is horrible because I know it isn't, seeing adults acting that way and thinking that at some point in my childhood everyone did the same thing to me terrifies me and is what scares me the most about this. I really thought it was going to be a more ambiguous documentary, but this keeps happening in the same way. Children continue to be manipulated in the same way, and it's been going on for years, and it's sad to think that it will continue to be done.
And as Becky says, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
