Ferris Bueller’s Day Off perfectly encapsulates the ideal day in May. The cold of winter is finally gone and what better way to celebrate than shirking your responsibilities and going on an adventure with friends. What holds the film together is not Ferris Bueller. He is a static character, he already knows what he wants and he takes it. If the film only followed his character it would be a series of vignettes, each only serving to show what wacky misadventures he gets up to. Instead it is Cameron who is the emotional cornerstone of the movie. Throughout the different shenanigans the gang gets up to we get to see Cameron’s growth as he learns what he wants and grows into his own character. It is also through Cameron that we learn to root for Ferris as we get a first hand account of the good Ferris does through his unorthodox approach to life.

It’s a shame this movie turned out the way it did because there is something pretty good in here, but it’s dragged down by poor performances and a bloated runtime

Took me an embarrassingly long time to realize this was adapting the novel, not the musical

Everyone needs that one friend that will weave a web of lies just to glaze you
