Paddington
This is such a stupid movie, but it is endlessly charming and disarmingly hilarious. There was some bad CGI snow, but the rest looked pretty good; I was genuinely surprised with how good the bears looks. Storywise, it's nothing new, although it takes quite a while to get to the villain of the story. I've seen a lot of comparisons to Wes Anderson with the blocking and how quirky the aesthetic is and I definitely see thr influence. In general, I love looking at a Wes Anderson movie, but I hate everything else about it. Paddington certainly has some of thr same kind of beautiful, creative shots, but the humor works so much better here. Not of all the humor landed for me, mostly because it tries to have a joke or two for everyone and some of the more childish ones just don't work for me, but there are quite a few bits of clever wordplay and some adult humor snuck in. There really isn't much to complain about with Paddington; the pacing is perfect, the story is solid, and the acting was pretty good. The plot could have used a more linear structure, but I thoroughly enjoyed it as is. Probably not a good pick for a movie night with the bros, but any other situation should be a good fit.
