Squid Game
This is not a movie, so I'm not sure why this is even here. This isn't exactly a unique premise, nor is any of it executed particularly well. The acting is mostly okay (if you thought the English dub was bad, just wait until you get to the actors they found for the characters that speak English. I've seen tons of terrible movies, but these guys are among the worst I've ever seen.) I give them credit for not wimping out on the gore, but it's still very unrealistic. It kind of goes with the fact that they clearly do not want you to think too much about anything. Don't think about what you are seeing, just accept it at face value and don't try to analyze it. Don't question why Player X doesn't just ______ or why this group wouldn't ________ instead. The second you start using your brain is the second the show falls apart. The story is full of "movie logic", inconsistencies, and tons of little things you are just not supposed to notice. We see one person fall and land on their butt, but when we cut back, the are laying flat in their stomach. We see tons of people fall from great heights and not a single one is shown having landed with a limb in an awkward position. Every one just happens to land perfectly on their front or back and never ends up with a leg facing the wrong way or an arm out of socket. There are so many things that it seems like they are setting up to do something with, but they just don't; the whole series is just a bunch of blue balling with zero pay off. I'm clueless as to why this is the show everyone has decided to obcess over. There is not one thing about this show that is worth comendeding other than a handful of performances. The score isn't great, the cinematography is bland, and the story is predictable and cliche. Characters are inconsistent and poorly established, there are no likable characters, and the ending is just stupid. I don't want to sound like an ass hole, but is this what people are talking about when they complain about "Normies"? Has the American Netflix audience really never seen stuff like Squid Game? Is this really good cinematography to them? Are they really watching this with the English dub and being astounded by its quality? Are they that new to visual arts? It's an okay show, but there isn't anything here that is unusually good; where is all the hype coming from? With Tiger King, no one was leaving 10/10 reviews about what a mastercraft is was, they just talked about how outrageous and interesting the characters were. People are actively praising Squid Game as a stupendous showing of cinematic perfection and I'm just not seeing it.
