Andrei RublevOskar Columb9.9· January 7, 2023FollowWhat a film, beautifully shot, scored (even if it is sparingly), and directed. Easily classifiable as an epic, this loosely based-on-a-true-story details several years of the famed painter Andrei Rublev’s life. From peace, to war, to famine Andrei wanders Russia in search of meaning for his art and talents. At times he is outspoken and in others silent as he abandons his life as a painter only to rediscover his passion through the successes of a young bell maker. It really is incredible how masterfully Tarkovsky was able to instill meaning in the telling of another’s life, albeit a largely fictionalized telling. At this point in my working through of Andrei Tarkovsky’s work, he can do no wrong for me.CommentsSign in to react and join the conversation.Sign inGet the app
