Moonlight
The fact this is simply called a ‘queer’ or ‘black’ film really urks me because it’s so so much more than that. The representation of masculinity within the African-American community during the early 2000’s was moving and horrifying simultaneously
The way I saw it is that this film follows the eventual acceptance of the self, with chirone only being able to do this in the presence of a masculine support/figure, the literal moonlight
Whether this was Juan with little, or Kevin with Black, when Chirone lost them both he lost himself, only finding himself upon returned contact with Kevin,
Although, this is still a queer film in essence, simply with a different representation of being queer, which is actually quite refreshing.
I loved it
