Adolescence
it has become more common than ever to turn on the news and hear stories of 13 year olds in violent crimes.
we think to ourselves, or at least i do: how cruel and violent their world must’ve been to do this, what terrible upbringing they must’ve gone through to become such monsters?
adolescence is a raw and compelling cinematic experience that answers these questions in one-shot episodes, parallel to the confusion and chaos of being in such an intense place. it puts you in the shoes of the kids, the police officers, the counselor, the parents, and everyone involved. we are them and they are us. in an age of social “ideals” being presented on a silver platter to young audiences, adolescence reminds us that everything around us is slowly turning this generation into monsters. it is slowly killing the humanity in youth, stripping them from the morals that made them.
this is why i love cinema and television. to address and communicate an incredibly complex matter, to wake people up and show them the reality of what is going on around them. kudos to the crew and the AMAZING PERFORMANCES!!
my heart goes out to every parent that resonated with this show, it is an incredible loss to see your own child become one with the horrors of social media and lethal “masculinity”
