The Witch
What makes this movie so memorable to me, is the amazing set design. It truly feels like you are witness to something that is taking place in the 1600s. The acting is also phenomenal, Anya Taylor joy is simply exceptional in what is a very demanding role.
"The witch" truly embodies what a horror film should aspire to do, terrorise you and make you feel like you can't escape no matter what.
Regarding the narrative, it's a great portrayal of the puritan religious ideology in that era and the anxiety inducing isolation that it brought to these people. It's a refreshing take on witchcraft and it's also interesting that it's not the witch that deteriorated the bonds of that family but the family itself. The paranoia and distrust they had led them to turn against each other.
