Die Hard

Christmas movie or not, it’s better than 95% of them. It's hard to find an action movie as badass and full of personality as 'Die Hard'. The movie really shines in it's cast, as each character is entertaining, developed and all have satisfying conclusions, the stand out being the cowboy John McClaine. Bruce Willis is now one of my favourite action heroes, but not just because of how cool he is, but how human he is. Including his high charisma, he's also not a one note easily wins hero of recent action movies, he struggles and suffers and that makes his victory all the more triumphant and satisfying. And in terms of action, the action is insane. Amazing set pieces that constantly one up each other as the stakes get higher and higher. Expert use of the Nakatomi Plaza, with so much creativity that kept me entertained throughout the entirety of runtime. The movie is amazingly paced, getting right into the action very early on but making sure to take breaks between huge explosive fights to continue the story, but in terms of the story it never feels complicated or drawn out. It's as simple as a man trying to get home to his family at christmas by stopping a group of robbers, and that's all it needed to be, and that was fucking awesome.
