Babylon
Honey, you don't become a star. Either you are one or you ain't. I am.
Over the top, audacious, brilliant. Babylon is a Hollywood epic in ever since of the term. The lengthy runtime is justified by characters who are all complex, flawed, and engaging in their own ways. Each are portrayed by career defining performances, I mean Margot Robbie in this movie is on another planet, one of the best as of late.
I was never able to look away, even knowing where the story was going I was glued to the screen to notice all the beautiful details in the production and costume design. And you can't talk about the technical elements in this movie without talking about that score. I haven't thought about it much, but this might be my favorite film score of the 2020s so far.
I hate how most of the discussion around this film is how it flopped, because if you watch it without those goggles on, you'll see a masterclass in ambition and stardom. Damien Chazelle is going to go down as one of the greatest filmmakers of his time, and his style makes every shot breathtaking.
