Yi Yi
I am so grateful that my first watch of this film was the 4K Restauration in Theater, that was so awesome.
This film is perfection of Edward Yangs kind of movie making and story telling, or more the way that he doesn’t tells a story but he tells people and that works so good. These films feel incredible, this in particular. It’s not films that completly flash you and pin you in your seat because, but they stay so long in your head. These people stay in your head.
However propably my most favorite part about this film is how unbelievably good it looks. Most of the time I am a fan of overly stylized movies, in particular what the filmmakers do just a few km from Taiwan in Hong-Kong, but I also really enjoy the toned downed style of Yang. Every single shot is so perfectly staged and set up. The camera movement and the planning of the scenes is superb. The lightning is nothing but perfect. Very colour in this film is so beautiful saturated, every thing looks beautiful. I am just really in awe how good this looks.
My actual favorite thing about this though is Yang-Yang, who is the coolest and most adorable person ever. I could have watched a 3h movie that just follows him doing stuff. He is so cute and that last scene is insane.
