Peter and Paul take the role of the audience. They are taking pleasure from the pain inflicted on the family. We as an audience take pleasure from these depictions of explotative violence and Haneke is clearly critiquing this. He believes we shouldn't watch films like this and he's probably right. edit: er i wrote this at like 2 am and it kinda sucks
