first official watch of 2025 and we are off to such a great start!! i really appreciated the pacing throughout that made everything feel that much more intimate. also james spader looks and sounds like a completely different person to me?? but is still a kinky freak. i really connected with this and would love to rewatch!
01 January
didn't get to finish yesterday but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I really enjoyed this!! can understand some of the critiques on this not being as well put together as it could be, but i genuinely really connected with it and found myself super engaged. laughed, cried, and had an unbearable hatred for the husband the whole time.
01 January
saw part of that dance scene and immediately added to my watchlist. didn't really engage me and found my attention wavering throughout, but there was a lot of really interesting stuff going on here. lots of great well-rounded characters and dialogue I really appreciated. excited to see more from this director!
01 January
yeah i need to see the musical. cried a bunch but I also have COVID rn and forgot to take my meds the past few days so take that as you will. you can tell there was a lot cut/condensed for time which is insane considering this is nearly 3hrs. i'm officially in love with cynthia erivo.
02 January

this was fucking wild. waaaaayyy ahead of its time in terms of how we engage with the internet in the age of streaming, and vice versa, how it interacts with us. really a whole lot of great stuff to sift through here and would be interesting to revisit at a later date to see how it stands as time goes on. also found myself insanely jealous of how cool night life in the late 90s looked.
03 January

this fucking devastated me. I was a bit hesitant at first bc I wasn't finding myself super emotionally drawn in at the beginning, but by the end these small instances just build on top of each other until I was repeatedly sobbing. that fucking feeder scene, even though I knew it was coming, was literally so horrific. incredibly well done stop motion and it's just that much more of a push to watch Mary and Max.
03 January

one of the most mid-twenties movies I've ever seen. attention wavered throughout and I think I mostly checked out by the end, but I genuinely really appreciate Cameron Crowe's story telling abilities. good shit.
03 January
rewatch
COVID really is kicking my ass when this is the type of media i chose to consume. but omg he was just a kid :( it feels so fucking sad to watch this back when they literally talk about him being fearful of being robbed of his childhood and now look what tf happened. cried a fucking shit ton for a range of reasons. this man is a part of me whether i want him to be or not.
05 January
had to stop part of the way through to google when sophia the robot was created. there's a lot to sit on with this one but all i can say for now is i really enjoyed it. visually captivating and some good shit to chew on thematically. also those glasses and beard had me totally face blind to the fact that was Oscar Isaac i literally just found that out.
05 January
i love moral grey area, so that + nicholas hoult kept my attention throughout despite this being a courtroom drama. toni collette also fucking killed it i love her sm. and some toby keith playing in the bg, god bless.
06 January
has been on my watchlist forever bc i knew it had rats but i didn't know just how MANY there would be. i was so giddy throughout most of the runtime over how fucking cute all those rats are. I'm literally so obsessed with this and excited to see the original. also why is there casually an African Giant pouched rat in what I assume to be the north east??? (big ben was so me and Vincent coded)
06 January
there is so much love, care, and empathy put into these characters. builds an amazing atmosphere with a great sound track, fantastic fashion, and dialogue that flows really well. despite there being snow on the ground right now this movie feels so much like summer. that ending fucked me up and for me really solidified what a great job is done with showing such a well rounded, flawed, and nuanced character Chantel is. absolutely floored that this is Leslie Harris' only full length film.
07 January
was really enjoying the first half and then some work drama broke out in slack and my attention was not well kept throughout the 2nd half. otherwise, really fun exploration of gender roles throughout.
07 January
what the power of getting on testosterone and finally living with your long term online relationship will do to a man. this genuinely speaks to the power of media as a tool for self reflection & exploration that can be shed once it's served its purpose. cried so much bc i'm dumb, transgender, and a man. a really fucking well done documentary which also reveals that i love kevin smith so much but god is he the fucking worst. (also: Totally F***ed Up was briefly mentioned and I barked like a dog)
09 January

I never watch westerns so the blatant racism was very jarring; that's a whole other thing to get into. these women are so fucking gay for each other it's insane. even the movie knows it and yet somehow still forces them to be with men. A Woman's Touch? are you joking right now? didn't realize it would be a musical either so was kinda put off by that at first, but I think I settled into it by the end.

09 January

i genuinely don't know what it is about Eggers that keeps me at a distance from his work. because this was so beautifully shot, had amazing acting in addition to casting, gorgeous colorization, and was overall really well done. but it still all felt very stale/sanitized to me and lacked the depth i was really craving. i enjoyed count orlock looking so grotesque and monsterous but other than that this didn't do too much for me.
10 January

rewatch
this is literally one of thee best movies to me, people need to stop hating. watched on the vhs i took from my parents and it wasn't rewound, likely because I was the last one to watch it 2 decades ago. daryl hannah was absolutely everything to me as Madison when i was a kid. looking at her in that suit now....she is still everything to me. one of my favorite tom hank roles for sure. rip john candy
10 January

without a doubt the most engaging version of dracula/nosferatu I've seen. my eyes started to get heavy half way through and I think I may have fallen asleep for a second, but the whole time I was watching I was wondering why they would remake Nosferatu in 2024 when the perfect remake already exists. everything about this is so well done and it's visually enthralling start to finish. really appreciated the dream like atmosphere that amped up as we went on as well. AND ALL THE RATS!!!
11 January

meta horror movies have my absolute heart and this was a really great entry into that subgenre. i really enjoyed this and willem dafoe absolutely fucking crushed his performance as schreck/count orlock. obsessed with his nails he'd click together to think.
11 January

the rats in this are literally so fucking cute, more representation for cute little babies like these in movies. they're so smart and well trained!! having watched both this and the remake now, i can really appreciate where the remake took things and from what is more slow and subtle in the original. Ben has now also officially been added to my watchlist 🫡
12 January
wanted to check out more del Toro stuff with the upcoming release of Frankenstein sometime this year. i think this was definitely a fun take on vampirism, but I didn't feel super drawn into it. having seen this now though I think it lays good bones for what to expect in Frankenstein. much to think about.
12 January
rewatch
undoubtedly a trash movie but I love it so much. 2013 cheesy romcom vibes are off the charts it's almost insufferable but nicholas hoult give such a heart warming performance i literally couldn't care less.
13 January
simultaneously made me doubt my ability to do anything in filmmaking while also increasing my desire to. but also yeah no maybe not. this was such a good time and Buscemi is so beautiful. also peter dinklage!!! so obsessed with him in this saying fucking you for using him as a caricature. and the ending room tone scene almost made me cry that was everything to me.
14 January
rewatch
suggested by bee while the 3 of us hung out and I gotta say it definitely holds up for me. gay as all hell and super silly. also realized while watching just how fucking cool all the practical effects are here. like i was aware of it before, but rewatching after i think 2-3 years now has me realizing just how special it is. peak 80s horror!!!
14 January
i have so much to say about this i don't even know where to start. this is such an amazing movie???? jessie eisenberg and kieran culkin give such incredible performances that are so layered and beautiful and connective. cinematography is beautiful. the piano is gorgeous. cried multiple times. the dialogue is not only to each other but also the wider audience and the space around them and I truly think that's what truly makes a great movie. i will be thinking on this for awhile.
15 January
rewatch
today was filled with a lot of grief and i think i subconsciously chose this bc i needed something comforting and familiar. i fucking love tinkerbell and periwinkle was everything to me when i first saw this. what i wouldn't give to be a frost fairy
16 January

rewatch
this is so sacred to me; every viewing as been distinct and important to me. I love you david lynch.
17 January

"you have to play the game to figure out why you're playing the game." 2030 huh? this has a very 90s action/sci-fi vibe to it that I didn't really enjoy, but it's cronenberg so there's something about it that pulls me in. meaning there's a lot of fleshy weird shit and some nice goop to enjoy. plus undoubtably transgender vibes and themes around the dangers of attachment to technology in its ties to capitalism. always a banger!
17 January
I think having my first David Lynch film be Eraserhead has set me up for a bit of disappointment as I go through his filmography. there were moments of this I enjoyed like the long lingering shots, set design, and all over off putting atmosphere. but unfortunately I was completely disinterested in the plot line and though I tried my best to get into it, it just wasn't for me. excited to continue my way through his stuff and see what works for me and what doesn't <3
18 January
this shit is so cool i love visual storytelling with no dialogue. the animation was sooo well done and really cool to have seen some of the clips from twitter on what the process looked like. was rooting for that cat with my whole heart and it was so sweet to see all the animals come together in the end, staring at their reflection in a shallow pool of the thing that almost killed them all but also brought them together <3
18 January
had me locked in from the first few seconds. i see so many of my favorite horror movies in this <3 not to mention spotting the Hennenlotter and Troma easter eggs, there is so much about this that pays homage to the great body horror of the 80s. uses a ton of cgi as well, but balances it out fairly well with all the tactile flesh and slime. add in some dumb humor and this all works really well for me. love!
19 January
sick (non derogatory). much slower and a lot less body horror than the other Cronenberg movies I've seen, but still solid in its own right. i think vibes like this are more of what I wanted from Babygirl. something unafraid to dive into fetish shit and get freaky!
20 January
very timely to watch on the most horrifying Inauguration Day of my lifetime thus far. the revolution is water and we must be fish; live, breath, and move through that is all around us. so beautiful to see all the trans masc representation as well. not my favorite but what it stands for is and i'm so glad this was made. thank you criterion channel for introducing me!!
20 January
this footage is so fucking important. had to stop myself from pausing it every 5 seconds to read all the signs or spend time taking in all the different faces. it is astonishing how far we've come and yet how much we still continue to fight for. it's so fucking important to know your history and how you got here. people talk about their experiences in such a raw and honest way I'm not sure you'd be able to capture at current day corporate pride events. there is so much joy throughout this and I'm so glad videos like these exist.
22 January
a bit slow for me but i still really enjoyed the premise + it had some cool visuals. those inter-cut silent movies titles were a very fun choice! plus, a b-rated monster? at a nudist camp? what more could you want! (apparently something to better hold my attention)
23 January
went in only knowing it was from the perspective of a ghost and nothing else; it was such a great time!! i really enjoyed the movement of the camera and thought its story telling abilities from that alone was really interesting. i was incredibly drawn into the family drama. covet by Basement played at one of the most serious moments which unfortunately pulled me out of it bc that's all i could focus on. but by the end that guttural scream really fucking hit me and gave me full body chills. overall really glad I went to see this in theaters!
24 January
did not realize until watching this how many of the quotes my dad repeatedly said in my childhood were from Jerry Maguire. no idea how i feel about this as a whole, not the best not the worst. s/o Cameron Crowe
24 January
i honestly don't have much to say other than I was smiling through so much of this. i need patrick swayze's pants immediately they fit him so well and im obsessed with it. i have seen parts of this so many times in passing throughout my childhood and am grateful to finally watch it the whole way through!
27 January
rewatch
first movie viewing at PhilaMOCA! really enjoyed this, forever an absolute classic. did not care for the group of younger people giggling at non comedic bits, loved the older gentleman sitting in front of us in all leather and a long grey beard giving affirming chuckles.
27 January
has been on my watchlist forever now but when Josh excitedly recommended it I really wanted to check it out. plot felt fairly slow and disinteresting to me, but I think I warmed up to it by about a third of the way in. (I blame Charles Band). love the puppet designs & movement and had some really fun kills, but I'm greedy and really wanted more. I hear the sequels get more fun as they go so excited to one day explore those!!
28 January
i love movies that love movies :) and movies that have clips of pretend b-rated 50s movies are always the best. reminded me A LOT of Popcorn, and it surprised me to find out this came out only 2 years after! a good time + a Dick Miller appearance!
29 January
rewatch
i intended to have this on in the background for a very short period of time while I looked for an *actual* movie to watch..... did not end well for me. so fucking cheesy but i genuinely love it so much. soundtrack brought me back to the late 2000s in the best way. when bella ran into his arms in the end and he hugs her & says "heaven".... that's kinda everything to me.
31 January
rewatch
came on auto play after New Moon.....it is shitty in retrospect and beautiful in my heart<3 it's also only within recent years I found out everyone fucking hates jacob??? literally shut up that's my baby. also s/o to my girl Bree Tanner!!! i wish so dearly that she could've gotten more screen time
31 January

first of all: sophie thatcher i love you so much, you are so fucking stunning and such a joy to watch. her pink outfit covered in dark red blood was so fucking beautiful to me. i genuinely did have a good time throughout, but I felt like the trailer gave away the best part and the rest is just kinda her being tied to a chair and chase scenes through a forest. i think i hyped it up too much in my head bc i was really excited for this one, but it was still a fun time none the less. also lucas gage!!!!
01 February

found on criterion when nothing was really clicking while looking for what to watch and i can't believe there isnt more hype around this??? sarita choudhury is one of the most gorgeous women i have ever seen in my life. an incredibly tender, heartfelt, and very charming romance about the interlacing of different cultures and all that comes with. really vivid and gorgeous colors as well,
02 February
like Presence but the camera is still and it takes place across multiple families. i hated seeing all the other living room layouts when the lay-z-boy guy's one was clearly the best. overall didn't really hit for me emotionally and thought it was just okay, but when it was the 50th birthday scene and I thought to myself "she looks so young!" and then realized she looks like my mom who is now over 50 and lived so many lifetimes i'm unaware of and sacrificed so much for me....that hit. other than that, fuck the use of shitty ai and cgi.
05 February
I wanted to get another linklater movie in the books and what better than gay funeral director jack black?? super engaging but lost me through the last quarter just bc i had it spoiled prior.
06 February
rushed to get to the theaters as soon as I clocked out, was anxious about being late (and was), and ended up watching the entire movie in a giant fucking empty theater front and center all by myself. the kills were fun and that's pretty much the only reason I went to see it, so in that respect well done. but the romance plot happening in between just felt so corny and dumb, and made everything else feel super drawn out. solid slasher entry but is fairly predictable and doesn't do anything special to add to the sub-genre.
07 February
watched with cass and josh :) knew the gore was gonna be intense but shit was so tactile the whole thing made a deep sadness wash over me. obviously the stop motion is fucking incredible and everything about this is so intricate and well done, but was not expecting this to feel as heavy as it did. s/o to the Mittens & Pants palate cleaners afterwards <3
08 February

really well told satire about Black representation in media with an assortment of fun skits spliced in! as if B.A.P.S wasn't already high up on my watch list, this definitely has me looking forward to it. the connective storytelling does a great job at showing the various racist stereotypes Black actors have been subjected to play throughout film while leaning into more exaggerated satirical bits that take place in-between a very heartfelt through line.
11 February

just realized i never made a note for this.....honesty not much to say. solid movie, was interesting seeing Robin play this kind of role. i enjoyed it but not much to say otherwise. s/o danny devito!
12 February
saw a clip of some of the practice fx and immediately added to my watchlist. the set up and overall plot was kinda lacking for me, and the choice attempts at trans- and homophobia were just so shitty they didn't even land. BUT, the fx were super fucking cool and so incredibly fun. lots of cool creature designs i really enjoyed and fun monster goo :) also.... remembered while watching that Alex Winter also directed the Smosh movie.....much to think on
13 February
rewatch
happy valentine's day and happy 5 years on testosterone to me <333 this was my first watch on vhs since I was a kid and it felt very nostalgic to put in the two different tapes :) val joined for the last quarter or so and was a hater but jack and rose dawson will forever mean so much to me <333 :))
14 February
rewatch
val saw the poster and was intrigued. unsurprisingly a movie I thought was corny, he ended up loving. lots of good silly bits throughout, i just wish billy eichner wasn't so self important.
14 February
has the exact vibes of summertime during high school: trips to the mall, hanging out with friends, and collectively trying to figure out how to flirt with boys together. however, men suck and prevent women from being able to experince a coming of age experience free from gross, pervy, stalker, home invasion shit. loved and hated this so much for those reasons. also laura dern you are so fucking gorgeous are you kidding me.
16 February

as my 2nd Hal Hartley film, I'd say I definitely prefer this to Simple Men. during the first act I found myself rolling my eyes at how pretentious cishet men can be, but as we divulged into the second and third acts I found myself really excited at how the same story can evoke such different feelings based on who is saying it and in what context. much appreciated!! + was excited to see Dwight Ewell in this as well <3
16 February

i don't know what i was expecting from this given i was aware it had terrible ratings, but i did really enjoy the 90s vibes. winona ryder is my beloved forever and always and i wish she had more screen time + less given to these boarding school boys i have no interest in (despite the movie literally being called Boys). overall a good throw away watch with some fun casting.
16 February

one of the most real, heartfelt, raw, and connective stories I've ever seen told on film about the AIDS crisis. I found out while looking through the reviews that this was also in fact one of (if not thee) first films to talk about the AIDS epidemic, which, holy hell. to be the first to do it and to do it this well? astounding. kind of reminds me of Parting Glances in that it has a very raw early new queer cinema movement vibe, where it captures an un-sanitized version of gay life on film by and for other gays. I can't believe Philadelphia is constantly championed as the movie about AIDS everyone needs to watch when this is literally right here.
16 February
rewatch
Bee made the *official* announcement today that they're gonna be moving in w/ Eden so I think I needed to watch this to process things bc i'm #undateable. having literally just talked with Val in the living room about how we should probably get credit cards to maintain good credit scores, her saying "I'm so embarrassed, I'm not a real person yet" is ungodly relatable. there's so many small things about this i love so dearly. this really was very needed tonight.
17 February
needed something fun that would keep my attention and this was very much that. straight forward comedies are rarely my go to but this was a great time with a lot of good laughs :) keke was amazing per usual as was sza who had the most gorgeous crochet cardigan on at one point i could not keep my eyes off.
18 February
a year or so ago I realized I had never seen this before and it had been bouncing around the back of my brain since. after having it on in the background while I spent the entire duration creating a sim, i understood why i never saw this and no one ever really talked about it. the others are so fun and this is so incredibly stale.
19 February
yo!!!! wanted to quick watch the trailer to decide if I'd watch, but the movie started playing instead and I was instantly hooked. such a simple premise and so captivating!! lots of fun, i really enjoyed this!!
20 February
i think either summer or mandy vaguely referenced this movie before and i have since been thinking about it. anyone whose a fan of Shaun of the Dead would love this but it's really just not for me. had no idea it had such a stacked cast tho!!
20 February
note to self: not the smartest idea to take a 50mg edible and watch an intense movie about racism. there was a solid chunk of time towards the last quarter where I was just non stop sobbing. I remember I didn't see this when it initially came out because of its longer runtime and I honestly think its better to have watched it now bc I don't think I would've appreciated it as much back then; especially given I now have the wider context of some of spike lee's older films. He has such a visceral way of story telling both visually and with dialogue, and I thought it all came together in a really poignant way. but now I need to watch some Mittens and Pants asap.
22 February

rewatch
threw on bc I wanted to test if the new remote I got worked with the DVD functions.....it does not. spent the whole viewing experience in my head about it and going down a bad spiral due to the previously consumed edible, but then Bee came down towards the last 15mins or so and all was well :) we hung out talking for hours afterwards with that American Idol ripoff music playing in the background on loop.
22 February

SICK and TIRED of hollywood trying to tell us gorgeous women aren't beautiful. this was very charming and i loved the phone sex scene that was so cute and v relatable <33 very fun, simple, sunday movie!
23 February
went against my better judgment and watched this despite reading how much everyone didn't like it. surprise surprise, i didn't either. a movie that wants to be very clever but isn't. the jokes didn't really land for the most part and there's so much of this that just doesn't add up. was not impressed by much visually either except for one shot of three characters in animals costumes with cool lighting + framing. but it wasn't even central to the plot. not a fan.
24 February
a really great satire with a lot of well rounded overlapping parts!! tbh my brain capacity was not with it today after a stressful day at work, so i think a rewatch would be beneficial to get the full impact, but everything that did register was cool as fuck.
25 February
the world is a better place for me having never had read The Catcher in the Rye in my formative years. this is very much 'immature child coming into adulthood crashing out over his desire to be seen/know projected onto the first older woman who shows interest' vs 'wife trapped in a loveless marriage and unsatisfied with life around her looking for any opportunity to feel desired'. i enjoyed it & jennifer aniston crushed. spent the runtime downloading new ts4cc bc im obsessed.
26 February

i enjoyed the peak into the behind the scenes stress of live tv! it made me think about Ben and how he recently had to put together the CBS 6 o'clock news story about the mass shooting at the hospital recently. also loved seeing how they did those titles back then??? (if that was accurate). other than that, it definitely attempted to stay apolitical during a story that was anything but, and failed.
28 February

did not know if I believed everyone saying how good this was but it definitely is a marked improvement on the first. i had a lot of fun with this and every time i found my attention pulling away it sucked me back in. s/o to channing tatum's attempts at voguing.
28 February
i took a 50mg edible on an empty stomach and got more high than I have in quite some time and it is within those circumstances that I had a good time throughout this. don't get me wrong, it's an awful fucking movie. but it made me very appreciative for this era of youtube and nostalgic for old Smosh. and rightfully so, Jenna Marbles is ultimately depicted as the President of Youtube.
01 March
weirdo storytelling for me<3 this is my second Todd Solondz film and after this I'm looking forward into diving more into what he's made. the dialogue is very distinct and unique in a way i found goofy but addicting. also i'm trying to avoid saying it bc i don't want to be the guy that compares everything to linklater but it kinda reminded me of that very Slacker style storytelling!! which i obviously love. also that 'alternate versions of yourself' scene really hit me, that was bonkers.
05 March

i forgot to write this entry directly after watching and now that a few days have passed i can say it left very little impression except for michael cera's french persona. take from that what you will.
06 March

rewatch
threw on the VHS after watching the new episode of drag race with val :) lots of casual racism that was painful to sit through as well as the obvious transphobia, but robin williams is so endearing that i feel like it really saves this from being a lot worse than it could be.
07 March

holy shit. insane that this didn't win best picture. this is so incredibly intimate and gripping from beginning to end. and my god the use of sound/score throughout is so thoughtful and well done. the intercut segments about space exploration reminded me a bit of Perfumed Nightmare and think its themes parallel well too. but overall this movie is one of a kind and i'm so grateful to be living in a time shit like this is being made and at the absolute least, given the recognition it deserves in the form of its 2 Oscar noms.
08 March

rewatch
somehow this is only my first time rewatching but my god did that confirm this to be an all time favorite. a satirical commentary on consumerism all tied up in a campy horror comedy with really fucking fun practical effects— it truly is everything I love in a movie<3
08 March
this was such a good time!! i saw the director was the same person who did Lady Parts and since I'm awful at watching TV and never got around to it, I immediately jumped on the opportunity to watch this. the editing was so much fun and i was super into the soundtrack. all around very silly throughout and had amazing stunt work!! this is my kind of action movie baby.
09 March
i became aware of this movie's existence after watching an episode of MTV's Camp'd Out where they go to performing arts camp and this was one of the musicals they put on lmao. gene wilder is an absolutely blessing to comedy and there is so much in this that is so flat out fucking stupid & i loved that about it very dearly. top tier dumb satirical comedy.
09 March
i mainly listened to this like a podcast while playing sims and omg these bitches are so annoying. dreadfully painful 2 hours of listening to people with unhealthy communication styles go back and forth but in the absolute most mundane way possible. insane.
09 March
yeeeaaahhh i get why this is a classic. i didn't watch a lot of hugh grant movies in my youth so it's always pleasantly surprising when i remember just how hot he is. so cheesy dumb but with a lot of heart. and the soundtrack really ties it all together. i love a bitch that journals!!
11 March
literally such a fantastic fucking movie. costume design hit it on the nail every single time, the physical comedy was a lot of fun, and the soundtrack was soooo 90s i loved it. very heartfelt with a deserved ending!!
12 March
controversial take but i don't think the shit in the frying pan was the worst part about this; i think the constantly progressing and yet never evolving tone was. men need not direct lesbian movies unless they truly understand lesbianism, bc the concept of a 24hr date is not this crazy & rarely done thing they try and make it out to be. lots of choice bits just generally made me go "????". but there were some parts that were sweet and unfortunately relatable so it felt worthy the watch. plus the Duplass brothers!! had no idea they were in this!!
13 March

"this is just like that restaurant.....Spaghetti City" got me unfortunately. hey this is very whacky bananas (pun intended). does not take itself seriously one tiny bit which is evident in the very end when good theo james goes "she's my mom too" and evil theo james says "i hadn't thought of it that way". also the editing was very silly and very enjoyable, as were the KILLS holy shit so much fun and so goofy!!! overall enjoyed!
14 March

rewatch

this soundtrack will live forever in infamy. such good kills and feels so nostalgic to me every time. i love this movie so much. also because of this Val & I binged the first season of The Simple Life together<3
14 March

drifted in and out a bit with this one and not quite sure how I feel about it. a lot more difficult to watch than expected with all the ants. and hey did not super enjoy you mentioning specific detailed ways of suicide! other than that, felt a tad self important but i think that's bound to happen with a motivational speaker lead. tho i really enjoyed all the fleshy/squelchy bits<3 you can also throw this one in with all the awful horror husbands bc that dude is the actual worst.
15 March

watched in 2 parts bc i got sleepy. this really is just girls being girls and i don't know what else to say. very bananas wild and not what i was expecting, but super cool visually and i had a fun time overall.
16 March

thought I'd be a lot more into this but it's for sure more of a mystery/thriller vibe and it was not for me. i did appreciate the cool early 00s tech and style tho :)
17 March

this has immediately become part of my personality. holy shit. this is everything I love in a movie. I want to watch this again as soon as possible. Virginia is so me it's insane. i watched this at like 9am while completing mundane tasks at my desk for the morning and all i can say is I'm so incredibly in love and can't believe I put off watching this for so long.

annnnd i watched again after work to be able to pay more attention. wish i could've paid attention fully the first time bc it obviously didn't feel the same rewatching, but fuck yeah i really do love this so much.
19 March

rewatch
happy first day of spring: for some reason this felt applicable. i tried watching my vhs tape first obviously but discovered it was broken and wouldn't play :( very sad but i do love this movie and it made me realize just how shit the remake is. also watching The Producers has for sure jump started a Gene Wilder appreciation bc my god that dude is such a gift. so many great lines throughout, such great set design, and still super funny! i fucking love that boat ride in the tunnel scene!!!
20 March
rewatch
needed this. all of annie's outfits before she gets stuck in her classic one are sooo adorable i love them. hard knock life is one of the most iconic numbers ever. cried multiple times throughout. this vhs tape has been very worn from years of love and I'm glad to continue that<3
21 March
rewatch
corbin bleu in this is everything to me. god bless. (MOVIE DAY WITH VAL!!)
22 March

rewatch
Movie Day with Val - haven't seen this since i was sat glued to the kitchen tv on a random weekend as a kid. transgenderism & homoerotic tension between you and the boy you've crossdressed in front of is off the charts
22 March

rewatch
Movie Day with Val - I. LOVE. THIS. MOVIE. SO. MUCH. this is literally such an absolute staple piece of media in my coming to understand myself as trans. winnie foster is a tboy in another life and you can't convince me otherwise. so gorgeous.
22 March

rewatch
Movie Day with Val - there was a dress in this that was so gorgeous it caused me to have a conversation with val around gender presentation that made me have a sincere period of self reflection. tehe<3 SO GOOD I LOVE YOU TILDA SWINTON I LOVE YOU COSTUME DESIGN I LOVE YOU PRODUCTION!!!
22 March

rewatch
Movie Day with Val - this has become a classic and an all time favorite to me simply bc the dynamic between the three of them is so good. so silly, so stupid, interesting dialogue, and all around good time. everyone say thank you andrew fleming!! (and thus ends the longest movie day I've done is suuuuch a long time<3)
22 March

first time at the Landmark Ritz with Cass!!! such a cool little theater. movie was alright, nothing special and clearly inspired by a handful of other films. visually pretty but not super gripping to me; will be sitting with this.
23 March

i forgot i made a promise to myself to start on the Leprechaun series every year going forward so this is a little late in the month for a themed watch but still fun!! the entire plot of trying to get a bride is weird but i fucking love all the fx and warwick davis kills it.
25 March

what does it mean that i watched this while taking a bath and trimming my bush while getting ready to meet up with a man almost 2 decades older than me. cate blanchett is a blessing to us all.
27 March
rewatch
asked for movie direction from val and he wanted paranormal horror, and i put this on assuming we'd both make fun of how shit it is like we usually do with movies but somehow he was really into this. i am so sorry but the 2nd time around solidified that this just feels drawn out and lacking of anything that feels truly engaging. very heady and not tactile like i crave.
29 March
rewatch
could not decide on what to watch next and Paul Blart to the rescue baby. thought a lot about memmie as i think this is my first time rewatching in a very long time. does not hold up very well but has some fun bits and holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
29 March
this is both the best and the worst movie. i saw those frankensteined cheer costumes one too many times as a preview on my childhood cat in the hat dvd and knew then i'd love this. the dialogue is....questionable, but the soundtrack is amazing and it gets to a point where it's just so trashy that you just can't not engage with it. i love the straight gay bitch & the goth baddie.
30 March
so many recognizable people in this holy shit??? i feel like that was the most fun part, seeing someone new i know show up every few seconds. otherwise this was a fairly dated though very sweet bromance romcom<3
30 March
hey so fuck you actually maybe i should read more into what im about to watch rather than going on vibes. seeing it's the same director as Kids afterwards made a lot of sense though. what ties everything together is the parents checking in on them every few seconds throughout. fucked up. especially to just end it with that fact like hello that's horrible!!
30 March
noooo idea how i never saw this in my youth. love a teen movie about breaking out of your assigned group...i wonder why<3 jade is everything to me i love her sm & they need to stop white washing yasmin.
01 April
therapist asked if i had any suicidal thoughts this past week, I said no but i am watching Being John Malkovich. jokes aside, i did not relate to this as much as i thought i would but i think thats for the best. Puppeteer John Cusack with long hair was unfortunately made for me though. dives in really well to feelings of envy and desire. s/o Cass for telling me to check this out!!
02 April
rewatch
i don't know that i've ever seen this full movie from start to finish in order before. attention still wavered a bit in the middle bc that's what i know most but I finally caught the beginning and end!! AND BTW THAT ENDING SUCKS I WANTED SOMETHING MORE CONSOLING!! BOOOO!!!
03 April
youtube muted 3 of the songs for copyright which sucks, but otherwise glad to have checked out the origins of Animal Crackers in my Soup, which makes almost as much sense in context as out of. only one racist bit throughout the whole thing that i was cognizant of which was a pleasant surprise. felt a lot like Annie but maybe that's just bc it's an orphan being adopted by a rich man. also Mary is so gorgeous and they gave her the most beautiful lighting and oh my god
04 April
rewatch
i am such a little fag about star wars movies like yaaasss jar jar!!! ugh and natalie portman is so gorgeous albeit very monotone. and the practical fx!!!! i feel like if i watched this rn on Disney plus they would have done cgi renderings over all the practical shit so god bless this VHS tape for showing me that unfiltered beauty!!
04 April
blumhouse bullshit & predictable as all hell. like i literally don't know what else to add aside from that. shit set up, dramatic turn, chase scene, shit ending, movie over. it's such a shame too, The Wolf Man deserves better representation in media!
04 April

The Passion of The Guacamole -- this felt very fitting and comforting to me in a way i wasn't expecting given how cheesy it is. Meant to have on in the bg but it clicked for me. life post grad sucks until it doesn't, but unfortunately you do have to fall a bit first to figure that out.
06 April

watched a youtube video of trans guys reacting to this and I myself also had to witness this masterpiece. if i had a nickel for every mpreg movie ive seen id have at least 2 nickels, which isnt a lot but its weird that it happened twice. baseline enjoyable but im writing this entry a few days after so i dont really remember too much. had fun!
08 April

rewatch
broke out my sealed VHS copy of "Say Anything..." for the first time to watch with Bee and Val on my birthday<333 tape was a little wonky towards the end but still grateful to own it on tape nonetheless!!! could not stop smiling through the whole thing, i love this movie so dearly it is one of the greatest romances to ever exist,,,there i said it! I GAVE HER MY HEART SHE GAVE ME A PEN!!!! I love you Lloyd Doppler <3 (also so glad both Bee and Val agreed that Lloyd is very trans coded)
10 April

rewatch
Happy Birthday Cass!! :,,) so cool to see this in a packed theater with them and Josh in what felt very front and center of the screen in the upstairs of PFC! ESPECIALLY to a crowd largely full of people who have never seen it before!! so fun to hear everyone's reactions & experience communally. i think this was my first rewatch and it solidifies itself as one of the greats in my head for sure!!
12 April

shit from a butt, i did not like this. Robert Pattinson's american accent was so horrible to listen to the whole time. the themes were painfully obvious and i just did not feel grabbed or moved or any sense of care towards the characters throughout the runtime. Bong Joon Ho i will catch you in the next one but this was not it for me.
13 April

baby i was so sleepy and couldn't follow the plot for shit but i felt so cozy and comfy watching this. those little brain dudes were very cool. i love 50s horror exploitation movies!!!
14 April

thought I was going to enjoy this considerably more than I did based on the reviews. don't get me wrong, there's some good stuff in here to chew on and I enjoyed learning more as we went on. but it's just....so white and so pretentious. there's talk about gentrification and occupying space as a form of resistance to capitalism in a very vague sense (aside from literally moving into the mall), and only One mention of the intersection of race as well as acknowledgement that the only reason they're able to do this is bc they're well off white art students. i enjoyed knowing that they used this as an avenue to push for expansion of the arts in under resourced institutions, but it felt very self fulfilling? idk maybe I'm being too critical. It's just like, you're making a statement about gentrification and the development and use of unoccupied space and all you do is use it to hang out and play playstation with your friends while your wife divorces you over the fact you're not spending time in the ACTUAL HOME you two have together?? why not actually build shelter and housing for unhoused people to live in as an act of rebellion that actual means and contributes something? some food for thought.
18 April

Happy PFS Spring Fest 2025!!! After only having gone to the showing of I Saw The TV Glow for last years Fest, I was a bit surprised that the turnout was so low. but everyone was enthusiastic to be there and the vibes were so positive. guy at the counter commented on my knocked loose shirt and said bye to me down the street later that night<3
I have been really interested in seeing this since I saw Nyle posting about it on his instagram a few years ago now when it was in the works. I immediately bought a ticket when I saw this was playing and it Definitely held up. A truly great and well told documentary. it is a bit lacking in its intersectionality, but other than that it is incredibly well told, engaging, and heartfelt. Jerry is my man all the way. really hoping this gets picked up somewhere other than apple bc I would really love for more people to see this.
19 April
SpringFest 2025 movie #2!! took a walk around the block after Deaf President Now! and prepared myself. all I knew going in was it was a sort of cinderella story retelling and that Chelsea from Dead Meat high recommended it. ultimately i ended up having a really good time with this!! the sfx were a loooott of fun and i *adored* the audiences reactions to everything as it unfolded. didn't emotionally grab me as much as i was hoping, but was captivated the entire time and smiling so much at the fx<3
19 April

was v sleepy so i wasn't following the plot as much as i should've, but all of the visuals were stunning. reminded me a lot of A Bucket of Blood, but somehow didn't connect with me as much. but like i said truly gorgeous to watch. definitely wanna dive more into Jack Hill.
20 April

this really is one of the top greatest stoner movies. very cool apartment and general set design. lots of amazing people in this and unfortunately dave chapelle is simultaneously the best and worst. AND S/O RACHEL TRUE!! did not know she was in this & chapelle does not deserve her. had lots of fun & really enjoyed this one. Happy Easter/ 4/20 baby! He Has Risen!
20 April

thaaat was shitty. like if Heretic was about class instead of religion but took place inside of a car and I get to stare at Bill Skarsgård the whole time. but like really shit with no real meat. hated the voice Bill was putting on but he is very pretty.
23 April

yeah okay i fuck with these critters. the first one i feel like i was kinda meh on but honestly dude this shit is just fun. so clearly a rip off of gremlins and now there's some space bounty hunter shit involved that i wasn't really following?? the puppets are so joyous to watch bop around and there's some solid kills in here!
24 April

Watts deserves sooo much better than that dude. a beautiful butch woman should not settle for a spineless indecisive man. also the use of the term tomboy here....obsessed. loved the middle sister's incredibly 80s dialogue. saw afterwards it was the same director as Pretty in Pink and I feel like that tracks.
27 April

hot guy started messaging me on tinder so i wasn't paying as much attention as i should've. but enjoyed what i was able to catch from this!! the soundtrack is a lot of fun and i really enjoyed the acting. real british accent trigger warning though bc that shit is on heavy.
28 April
to be fair i was warned beforehand that it wasn't that great, so i had low expectations going in and it was able to have fun. movie made the smart choice and was able to laugh at itself and the absurd premise. it's like,,,not great but if you allow yourself to accept its not going anywhere special it's a good time
01 May
Finn Wolfhard i knew from when i first saw you making videos with Josh Ovalle that you were gonna make some kickass shit, and for this to be your FIRST feature length directorial debut? um, fuck yeah. very smart, well rounded, FUNNY, and a good time. and you could tell it paid homage to classic slashers which I appreciate.
02 May
rewatch
this was my first rewatch since I was a kid and it's clear i was simply blinded by how much i was obsessed with cool kung fu moves and brenda song. this is unfortunately pretty shit and i was not satisfied with the ending. but lots of love for its nostalgic value<3
02 May
haven't watched a good 50s monster movie in a hot minute and this scratched the itch. had a really boring side plot as expected but would liven up a bid when the female love interest would come in. but omg loooved this fucking mantis diva!! truly if there's gonna be any huge killer bug in the age of atomic monster movies, it should damn we'll be a mantis. shot of it climbing the washington monument was cool af. over had a really fun time :)
03 May
came across this on the streaming site i found The Deadly Mantis and a found footage movie from the 80s??? definitely caught my attention. watched in broad sunlight so a lot of the scenes were washed out, but this really did feel like a home video. absolutely obsessed with the grandma getting everyone to play cards like nothings up.
03 March
rewatch
watched the Dead Meat Horror Awards with Val and he requested to watch this afterwards and then was ultimately not that into it lol. lore does not stand up well and is really poorly explained, but the highlight and true star of theses movies are the practical effects. so gorgeous.
03 March
this shit had me stressed. out. honestly not the worst first date you could go on, at least they're gonna go on a second one. felt bad for the dude being so sweet the whole time to be met with very little energy back. lost interest a bit by the last like 15mins bc we broke the tension of the date, but overall a good time and had me engaged the majority of the time.
05 May
rewatch
PFS Main Stage viewing with Kyle Gallner! said it was his second time seeing it as well lol. I was really hoping for some insight that would make me like it more but still not really my fav. though i will say it was very cool to watch it actually on 35mm, bc it did look a lot better than on my laptop. plus cool to hear from Kyle!!
09 May
really thought I'd be into this one!! I'm writing this a few days after seeing so some bits have left me, but it just felt so void of anything tactile?? It just... didn't do anything for me and left me longing for it to end. grief is such a powerful emotion and to really strip it of anything that feels impactful is so wild to me. (i guess that might be part of the point with him being so detached from actually processing his grief, but either way i think it could've been depicted much better)
10 May

saw this recommended through someone on youtube and I thought this was a really fun take on vampires!! jot me down as a lover of horror movies that use the genre to depict PTSD in an era where it wasn't fully understood yet!! truly really cool and very smart stuff.
11 May
bought this on DVD thinking it was the 2006 remake and was pleasantly surprised by this!! has that one BEAUTIFUL camera shot I would see floating around online every now and then straight through the hole in that girls head. plus some really gorgeous lighting through the trees and the fog for the outdoor shots. not enough leatherface in this imo but i thought his mask looked sick!!
16 May
holy shit. when i first heard about this i was kinda eh on it bc im a bit tired of so many vampire movies, but after its opening weekend its all anyone could talk about and for the next few weekends all the seats at AMC for it were sold out. so my interest was peaked. and oh my god does this thing deliver. vampires are truly only one small part of this and an avenue for so much more. incredible cinematography, one of my favorite soundtracks i can think of for this year, and such incredibly beautiful and nuanced performances all around. this will be a staple in vampire movies and horror for years and years to come.
17 May

rewatch
needed this. was crocheting throughout the whole thing so I wasn't paying 100% attention, but even through passively watching my god i'm fucking obsessed with this. touches on this topic of change and envy and longing and all these other multilayered complex emotions so fucking well. need everyone to see this and experience that sense of hollowness.
17 May

watched Amy's podcast with Paul Rudd and really wanted to check this out. very silly corny almost to an excessive amount but still manages to balance everything out. I love movies that make fun of movies<3
18 May
wanted to try and watch the original before the remake but i really wanted to check this out. not my favorite but had its moments and was overall a nice time. Lily Gladstone I love you so much.
20 May

rewatch
the idea of watching this later made me so joyful and helped me get through the day. I genuinely really fucking love this movie and the rewatch solidified it as something special to me. truly and deeply, made for me.
21 May

been saving this one in my back pocket for awhile but i needed to break it out of the watchlist. OBSESSED with this being called Frogs and the actual frogs doing nothing but hopping around having a good time. lots of really cool little guys that i kept praying weren't abused on set but know likely were. actual plot was kinda a snooze but the reptiles/amphibians are the real stars of the show here
22 May
was nervous we were gonna play into tired racist tropes but this actually played out surprisingly well. characters were very flat/boring/annoying but once we really got into the vibes of it all, I was into it. thought it made some fun choices and i loved some fun gore as well.
23 May
"one ticket for friendship" i say to the ticket person as i grab my popcorn and large soda only to find myself surrounded by couples pertaining of bisexual women and their mustached boyfriends. this was a really fun time and a really great satire. related way to much to tim holding people at gunpoint yelling "ASK ME ABOUT MYSELF!!". also the idea of your psychedelic trip consisting only of you ordering a sub at subway and not even getting to eat it is too real. lots of fun names squeezed in here as well (Ivy Wolk what the hell are you doing here). plus every time i see Paul Rudd I love him even more.
25 May
rewatch such an essential movie to me. depicts the causality and mundanity of gay life in the 80s. filled with sex, grief, love, and partying, what more could you want! the first time i watched this it felt like a whole new world opened up in my brain about what was possible for queer film
came across this on tubi while looking for The Leather Boys.....yeah hello this is for me thank you! sort of standard monster movie for the 60s but with a sleazy edge that is incredibly homoerotic. so fun visually and holy shit that dance scene at the end is one of my absolute favorite things ever. really glad this came on my radar :)
06 June

thank God for the person that posted this link on twitter after i haven't been able to find it anywhere other than a Kanopy subscription for years. i love this so dearly and i am so endlessly appreciative for documentation of queer lives pre social media and pre internet revolution. i love dykes so much.

11 June

rewatch
AAAAHHHHHHH!!! I GOT TO SEE THIS IN THEATERS!!!!!! Oh my god. was literally stimming and grinning ear to ear the entire time i was so fucking happy. this is probably one of my most watched movies and one i know the most lines from. gay commentary was provided by the people beside me and tears were shed by me due to overwhelming emotion. means a lot to me i got to see this in a theater with others<3
20 June
trailer was really good and incredibly talked about online so despite only seeing the first movie once a few years ago, i wanted to be sure to check this out. there were bits i liked throughout in terms of style and cinematography (as well as zombie baby birth), but overall i felt like i kept waiting for something to occur, or to really feel some sense of connection/completion, that ultimately never did. appreciate the message and thought it was alright, but not for me i suppose!
22 June
rewatch
watched while completing assessments for the day. first rewatch since i saw it for the first time after it had come out on streaming and i stand by this being a really great depiction of community and the human drive to connect with one another. gorgeous animation and lots of smart & silly giggles throughout
24 June
interesting to watch something so soulless after watching Soul. had no heart whatsoever and was literally just cgi minecraft slop (though i am interested in why they look that way), random references, and the characters loudly saying minecraft terms. was stunned both times at jack black randomly bursting into song. also happy pride month to him riding jason momoa saying "let my hips guide you" ..... i watched it for the culture and i did not enjoy.
24 June
really enjoyed this one :) very relatable as a previously emotionally unstable teen obsessed with movies (though in a way lawrence would have detested). was expecting this to be very mid but this has a shit ton of heart and had me glued to the screen the whole time. love.
25 June
saw opening night at AMC and I was jumpscared by Megan BEFORE the movie started with her thanking me for being there. thankfully i received warning beforehand that this was a thriller/spy movie rather than a horror (as well as not very good) and was able to adjust my mindset accordingly. while it's not the best, it's also not the worst, and i found myself having a lot of fun with Megan's costume designs once she made an appearance. one of my favorite parts was when she started singing and at least 2-3 people left the theater. would not watch again and probably would not have seen if not in theaters, but hey, they really did that.
27 June
i was flipping through channels on the 00s myretroTV.com (as one does) and a preview for this comes up with fucking Matthew Lillard.....i'm in. quickly understood why i've never in my life heard a single person mention this, even through the Matthew Lillard renaissance, but it was a fun throw away movie! and honestly, really impressed with all the stunt work in the water bc it seemed like they actually did that shit!! would love to see behind the scenes.
01 July
rewatch
first rewatch and like yeah i really did know the first time i saw this that it's an all time favorite. lots to love in addition to some choice bits but overall one of the greatest early 2000s comedies hands down.
03 July
saw afterwards it was the same director as Spree and that checks out. And while this didn't feel as thrilling/engaging to me, there was a lot about this that I feel like shows what we can do with movies in this digital & social media -age that is super interesting to watch unfold. was very sleepy by the second half and partially regretting having put another movie on, but i powered through and solidly enjoyed.
03 July
okay this was really good. i think somewhere along the way i got this mixed up with American Pie and have just had zero interest despite hearing all good things. but after watching Amy's podcast with Paul Rudd this was another one I added to the forefront that was lots of fun. tons of great faces and some top notch performances that made me giggle a bunch; very rewatchable. no mention of the 4th of July but this was my themed watch for the day.
04 July
i actually enjoyed this one! to be fair, i think binging all the Final Destination movies back to back within a short span of time tainted my overall enjoyment of what would've otherwise been a pleasant experience with these. so not having seen a movie from this franchise in awhile, i had a lot of fun with this. especially given the one kill we see in the trailer isn't even a confirmed kill in this, so great misdirection!! cgi fx are obviously not my fav, but i think a lot of the gore was just so shocking and a bit goofy that i didn't mind too much. a good time!
05 July
rewatch
first movie in the new place :))) i honestly love this so fucking much and you could never catch me being a prequel hater. i love anakin so so dearly and find myself relating to him far more than I should; did some research and found out he's like a classic example of BDP in film, so much so that there's literal published journals about it. figures. made me cry when he killed the younglings bc that's literally a scared and hurt boy replaying the traumas of his childhood in an attempt to save what he loves. fuck man. other than that, parallels to fascism and modern day america are incredibly apparent. also easily one of the most quotable movies ever, so many great lines. love love love
13 July
!!!! cannot believe i put this off for so long due to it being a netflix movie. this is such an amazing original horror that is so incredibly emotionally gripping. cried like 3-4 times and had my hands tightly gripping my head various times over how tense i was. incredibly nuanced performance and really gripping plot line. also can i just say, especially as a social worker, those fucking white dudes pissed me off so much. like i get there are certain guidelines you have to follow blah blah blah but you're literally not even TRYING to help them or being a compassionate human whatsoever. you are poisoned with such apathy and allegiance to the state it's fucking gross (that's obviously the point of the character, but still). really loved this and hope to hear more people talking about it.
13 July
unfortunately not good. it has really good bones and the sfx were so gooey and fun, but the acting felt incredibly stiff and the lead guy was insufferable. like genuinely so baffling to me that the movie actually tries to get you to root for him and paints him as the hero, truly unforgivable. also felt like it could've leaned more into the wealth disparity it was depicting but whatever.
14 July
lovelovelove. really heartwarming depiction of community and such an incredibly valuable watch. had this on my watch list ever since it came out and a girl on my dorm floor started a girl skate group aptly named after the movie. would've meant something different to me back then and was still meaningful to me now. skateboarding will always be the coolest sport to me.
15 July
not counting this as a rewatch bc i don't think i had full consciousness when i first saw this or that i even saw the whole thing, I just remember seeing it at memmie's house and hearing elise's laugh. set design and vibrant colors are everything to me in this omg. very silly goofy fun, peak late 90s bullshit. but also dan schneider jump scare warning god damn, i need dude to be erased from all media everywhere forever.
16 July
not really sure what i was expecting but i did enjoy this. holds tight its moments of stillness but never felt long or overplayed; when it cut to black at the end i was surprised that much time had passed already. just saw all the good reviews + poster so did not know there was SA involved but that really spoke to me and was depicted in a very caring and nuanced way. wasn't able to feel very connected to the movie in the beginning (not sure why but it felt very distant to me) but as we went on and learned more about our lead it pulled me in more and more. still not sure if this was the better choice over Eddington for tonight's viewing but i think it will be sticking with me.
18 July
i wanna rewatch to really soak it in but this connected with me in a way i wasn't expecting. uh oh!
LOVE!! goes in my personal cannon of movies that are important for me in processing sexual trauma <3 the guy in this is so fucking annoying and gets under my skin; a portrayal of men that see women as objects and their suffering as entertainment for themselves because they're so clearly superior. Zephyr is badass as fuck and an amazing final girl, so glad she gives him what's coming to him by the end of the<3 this was so good and i'm upset i didn't catch it in theaters! i assume that's also why i haven't heard anyone talk about this yet bc what the hell this was so good!!
27 July
incredibly nuanced and multilayered in terms of story telling and acting. sexual trauma is a fucking bitch to process and processing it through family grief adds so many layers to it. there are times where it didn't really connect with me but it would still really hit me, and by the end i feel it all came together really well. amazing amazing amazing.
31 July
from one codependent to another, i really needed this. unfortunately, i think i hyped it up in my head to much and it didn't really hit the mark i was expecting, but i still think this is a fun movie that hits on a lot of really important themes regarding relationships, needs, and like i said, ultimately codependency, in a really engaging and visceral way. found myself relating a bit too much and it was ultimately really satisfying to watch everything unfold.
04 August
rewatch
i realized the back wall of my bedroom would work really well for my projector, so once i got it set up i obviously needed something aesthetically interesting to watch. this was my first rewatch since i saw it originally in like 2021 and can i just say? love. makes the existence of GBF that much better. movies this cunt couldn't exists today if we tried bc shit like this happens once in a lifetime on accident. fantastic. (and i did ultimately watch Nowhere directly after)
06 August
rewatch
remains one of the best movie soundtracks of all time. incredibly heart warming and absolutely hilarious. jamie lee curtis and lindsay lohan act their assess of in this. so fucking quotable and an all time classic, i love this movie dearly.
08 August
i fell in and out of sleep like half way though and wasn't following the plot much, but the COSTUMES and the HORNS were incredible and very enjoyable. everything felt so grand and it was nice to have this on in the background of a chill Saturday morning :)
09 August
AMAZING!! FANTASTIC!! the gorgeous woman who sold me this for a discounted price at the used bookstore sang "Hello, Dolly" to me as she rang me up, but the reprised version Mr. Vandergelder sings to Dolly in the end, and after now watching this that is even more heartwarming to me. SUCH amazing choreography and costume design. val and i noticed half of these songs feelings super familiar, and i didn't realize how much of a classic this musical truly was. the absolute PRESENCE of this cannot be understated. gorgeous, amazing, wonderful. what a fantastic night to be a homosexual raised on barbara streisand.
09 August
this movie caused me to get in a situationship for a few weeks bc i watched it while on a 50mg edible and got scared
rewatch
so fucking obsessed with her. truly one of the greatest movies there is about adult female loneliness; how it starts, how it grows, and an attempt at amputation of it from the whole. the talk of "parts" in particular stood out to me this time, how that is an aspect in which loneliness feeds itself, by not allowing you to see the whole person and instead deeming them as different parts you're able to tolerate or not. seems like someone should try some IFS maybe! that all being said, this was my 3rd watch and i love it even more every time i see it.
PLEASE TELL ME NO ONE HURT THESE DOLPHINS BC THIS WAS SO COOL!! i forget where i found out about this but thank GOD i did because this is such a gem. a little dull at times but dude this dolphin is talking and the other one is saving him from a bomb, what more do you want
take a shot every time they say "Charles Wallace" and you will not make it out alive. put this on during a gloomy morning completing assessments and it for the vibe. not as fantastical as I remember but I also haven't seen it since like 5th grade. really enjoyed tho!
the musical aspect is so forced i s2g and also the heteroification of all these lesbians is incredibly disrespectful. but this was kinda fun ngl. also excited for the third one to focus on my babe frankie!!!
rewatch gender envy out the wazoo for the cocky asshole characters sterling knight always gets pigeon holed into
rewatch
this is an incredibly me children's movie. i swear this is one of the foundational movies that really drove my love and obsession for practical fx and cool character designs. also wtf howie mandel!!! what are you doing here as a blue monster i loved as a child!!!
rewatch
first rewatch since i was a kid and got to watch all the DVD special features :)) very cool to learn about the process behind how they animate them to talk!! also it's literally no wonder i was obsessed with this as a kid
rewatch
yeah okay this might be one of the coolest experiences i've ever had in my life. like literally one of the best movies to get to see irl on the big screen. and for free right in front of the art museum :,,,) very beautiful to me
rewatch
i literally had no memory of this movie what so ever and remembered it existed via rewatching the 2004 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and seeing it nominated for "Best Fart" ...... and suddenly the memories came flooding. i literally used to rewatch this so fucking often it is ridiculous. not a good movie mind you, but talking dogs?? sure like i'm not gonna eat that up.
really boring and almost nonexistent plot line (that i was aware of) but dude..... how did they do that!!! what the hell!!! so many cool animals in this and i do not want to know anything about the behind the scenes or else im about to feel real bad real fast.
foolish horror brain thought this would be more spooky, but very much so more sad! though i was thinking about all the horror dummy's i know and love, Fats definitely stands (or sits) on his own. ty cass for the rec<33
okay so i was very resistant to this at first and i still think it's kinda half assed and they should've made him faggier, but the more time passes i'm like it wasn't that bad. definitely got better towards the end. just thought the creature design could've been cooler
rewatch
brb just yelling at anxiety for using "If/Then" statements to create a fragile sense of self. watching this as someone who gets the psychology behind it and knowing how valuable it is to have media people can use to put words to feelings,,, this is genuinely so impactful!!
rewatch
first every rewatch,,, this is very lovely to me :)))))
rewatch bitches fuck with alymer. spent a significant amount of runtime discussing the bugaboos. forgot just how homoerotic it is as well
rewatch
shoutout to me for going to a screening of this and having one of the directors personally thank me for being the only one there who had seen it before. so i guess that's the level of horror nerd i'm at now....
anyways this was great with a crowd and i genuinely forgot a lot of it so it was a really fun second watch :)
every time i'd be like "there's no way she's gonna swallow that",, and yet she always would. i needed to watch a new (to me) movie and this got me on the right track bc hey wtf! love her dearly and i get her. pica besties<3
saw mark duplass and immediately i was in. reminded me a bit of chuck & buck! either way i will take any and all opportunity to was straight-gay romances
rewatch
needed this schlock<333 i love the wrong turn series so much. so many of these scenes are very iconic in my own brain
fun size was genuinely unsettling to me i kinda loved it. not my fav but was a good time overall
this was a lot of fun!! ngl a tad disappointed she wasn't actually a wheelchair user but it's the 60s and i'll take what i can get. very underrated imo. builds a really great sense of atmosphere and had me hooked
watching early monster movies from different counties is so cool bc you get to see really interesting/varied iterations of monsters you otherwise wouldn't. why does this dude have tube hands!! loved that the mask would seem to breathe with him too
rewatch had to show val this since he's always one to complain about how stupid people are in horror movies. literally a master class on how to be a badass final girl
saw kris and celina so i thought id give it a shot! not great, but had some compelling parallels to blair witch that i found interesting. plus i had fun with the sfx towards the end and really enjoyed the various cameras!
12 October
really cool practical fx!! very grotesque!! fairly boring throughout (i'm just not a fan of action movies) but anytime it would show us the scarecrowification of these people i was locked tf in
14 October
needed another good 50s monsters movie in me. absolutely love the idea of a giant snail from the depths of the ocean. same applies for this as most 50s monsters movie movies though, boring side plot about army shit i don't care about and not enough monster.
rewatch threw this on in the bg while smoking a bowl. the line "be a nose" is so insignificant but it's the one that stuck with me since i saw it last. really love this one
okay so maybe i should've been more aware about french new wave before seeing this bc they do get into the weeds a bit (especially with people and names and such) but the feeling that it brought about lasts the same! had that linklater charm and personability to it that kept me engaged throughout. made me really excited to watch more work from this period as well, so thank goodness Breathless will be playing at PFS soon :) and i cried by the end which really caught me off guard!! 19 October
was reminded why i don't watch true crime i'll tell you that much, literally cried my fucking eyes out through most of this. i HATE the over dramatization and the complete disregard for this as a real life event that occurred. like i said in my review the only thing i knew about or was interested in going in was this being a cool concept in terms of storytelling through use of body cams, but i was punched with a peer into this neighborhoods life in a way that felt incredibly personal. fuck that ugly old racist white bitch. 19 October
"I am obscene to you. But to myself, I simply am." - still largely trying to figure out how i feel about this, but jacob elordi as the creature is such a beautiful rendition. i appreciated how much more true to the book it was than most other movies, but something still didn't click for me. i think i need to rewatch to really soak it in 28 October
okay so i was expecting a movie like literally from the dogs perspective, but i think this was a fun take!! the acting from Indy is literally so fucking good that they should give him an oscar and i'm dead serious about that. plot overall was nothing amazing but not bad by any means. i enjoyed this one
okay this is very my speed. pretty much everything you want your generic mid 80s horror movie to be. i really am enjoying this franchise the deeper i get into it. it lays on a shaky foundation but i feel like that makes for good schlock 31 October
rewatch one of my favorite halloween watches<33 has such a way of depicting dread and hopelessness that i really appreciate. supper gritty and comforting to me<33 31 October
i don't even know what to say about this because it felt kinda shit but i was so locked in the whole time. genuinely wtf who came up with this and why. i felt like i watched 3 different movies 01 November
gonna be honest i don't like that they end up together in the end and that he was actually into her the whole time. but this was very cute and i enjoyed :) 01 November
yet another movie i decided to watch based on a podcast. at some point ive gotta stop doing that. but not today! honestly a great depiction of a really complex set of emotions surrounding fame, envy, and personal vs professional growth. i can understand why this resonates with so many comedians 01 November
didn't connect with me as much as i was hoping, but this is a really beautiful display of female solidarity. really gorgeous cinematography with a city that ties it all together. i watched a bit of an interview with the director afterwards and knowing how much research and care was put into these women's stories brings about another light to it i really appreciate. 02 November
truly one of my new favorite thanksgiving movies for sure. so much heart and had me so fucking tense by the end. love love love
rewatch watched with mom and dad while decorating the tree :)) made me so happy to share this
score: amazing, cinematography: incredible, everything else: oh my god i hate this oh my god make it stop. like truly a well done movie but i did not like this one bit and to wrap it up like that just pissed me off.
