“and what a waste... if it could've maybe brought us together, or something, if you could've just said "i’m sorry" or faced up to what happened, maybe then we could do something with this, but you can't take responsibility for anything! so, now i can't accept. and i can't forgive. because... because NOBODY admits anything they've done!" a phenomenal piece of film right here folks, and yet again snubbed by every major award body and will never receive its full tens as it should. toni colette is sooooo raw and intense here, unlike anyone you’ve ever seen before. her grief, her trauma, her pain, her desperation, her dedication, her love, her perseverance despite all she’s endured. for the love of her family. if i could give this whole family a happy ending i would because every moment with her made me want to cry, like i needed to cry for them. the seance, the dinner, the insane ending, the morning when she found out (her cries are implanted in my brain) i just felt so bad. each of them are very tense with one another and you just want them to have one good day, especially annie (she was without question robbed of an oscar). this is truly the movie of pure family despair. alex wolff needs an oscar too he was absolutely popping off here as always. gabriel byrne im just happy to see you. DID YOU KNOW MILLY SHAPIRO IS A TONY NOMINEE AND SHARES AN OLIVIER WITH THE OTHER MATILDAS CUZ SHE WAS FRICKIN MATILDA ON BROADWAY?!?!?!? ari aster directs the fuck out of his movies and watching this the whole time i was thinking “this is what MEN wanted to be”. naked old people and all. i’ve watched this film many times before but this was the first watch where everything really started to make sense. you can see how clearly structured this was around annie and making her look like the bad guy, gassing her up completely while steve and peter are given all the pity. steve is just trying to keep his family together and peter… yeahhhhhh again absolute torture and despair, these people. and ill tune in every single time until i memorize the damn script. colin stetson you will get it and it won’t be pretty (complimentary)
