BRUTALLY GUTTING HOLY SHIT!! i literally am left speechless like 20 times. an absolutely cathartic, never ending hurricane of just thing after thing after thing after this and that and the third and just make it worse for us while you’re at it!!! i felt like i held my breath for that entire scene in the penthouse.
the performances are literally killer HOWWW is the academy not on this??? choi min-sik can do anything he wants he’s that fucking cool. a nightmare of a role took on while throwing caution to the wind, ending up being one of, if not, the best performance on screen in modern cinema. and NOT from america!!! while it did seem like thing after thing and then some, it felt as if the film was so aware of its own circumstances, maybe all the absolutely terrible things that happen here are meant to stretch the human capability. unimaginable events happen in front of you, and you only see it. it’s much more different being in one. to really feel as if this torture never ends, make it never end for the character. but it didn’t feel redundant at all, everything had a purpose. or maybe i’m just too high rn. god he is amazing at what he does.
the other performances, especially of kang hye-jung and yoo ji-tae. both their characters, despite everything, are easy to connect to and are way more integral than i thought. i felt as if, at the end, i didn’t know who the villain was. maybe it was extreme for something as small (but super fucking weird) as that. but idk im not supposed to be thinking this much about it.
the score is GORGEOUS, the cinematography gagged me, the editing made me scream lmao. no complaints or anything at all.
and if you watch this and rate it less than a 5, what else could you possibly ask for?
