Boogie Nights
pta really did his big one here. the screenplay is insane and obviously bolstered by anderson's irreproducible directing, flirting with different genres and tones throughout. the opening establishes the tone for the film so well yet so deceivingly. the final choice to set dirk's own 'happy ending' to something that could work as funeral music is perfect. down to the very choice of using eddie's penis as a conceit for transgression, art, and viewership, the film works. and of course julianne moore is quietly amazing. everybody truly does pull their own weight.
