Shrek

Shrek is an intellectual journey into the depths of swampy existentialism rather than just a movie. Fundamentally, it daringly explores the limits of beauty, the nature of friendship, and the essence of being an ogre. One might question whether Shrek, the green, farting philosopher, isn't the real hero of contemporary film because he so expertly destroys the hero vs. monster narrative. Deeper meaning and layers of complexity are added and Donkey, a four-legged Socrates. Not to mention the soundtrack—"All Star" by Smash Mouth is a generational anthem. Shrek is a masterpiece that redefines animated storytelling forever by encasing deep themes in jokes and onion layers.
