Brokeback Mountain
going into this i was fully expecting just some Jake Gyllenhaal on Heath Ledger action but it’s so much deeper than that. i love the lack of dialog in the start leaving everything open to interpretation. i love the missed stares they keep giving each other. the scenery is absolutely gorgeous the mountains and the running water is making me so jealous. them spooning is so goddamn cute but i did not expect it to turn into sex that quick. it’s really sad how they both are obviously gay but can’t accept it other than around each other. I think Ennis punching Jack is because he can’t control himself around him and it makes him so mad. you can tell that jack yearns for Ennis and Ennis yearns for jack but in such an ashamed and sad way and him retching and crying thinking about the trip they shared is actually so sad. Ennis hesitating when kissing Alma to be his wife like i can’t handle it. (also Alma being Heath Ledgers wife irl is lowkey insane). Anne Hathaway being in this is may just be the biggest surprise of the whole film. them being so happy to see each other and resisting kissing then Ennis being the one to ignite the kiss is so beautiful. Alma seeing also breaks my heart a little because she built this beautiful family with the man she loves just to find out he loves another man by seeing them together is absolutely tragic. them just wanting each other but society not letting them is also so tragic. Alma and Ennis divorcing is probably the best thing that could happen to either of them but i feel so sorry for his daughters cause of how much they both neglect them cause of how both Ennis and Alma resent each other. Jack standing up to his father in law is probably one of my favourite scenes. Ennis’ children just yearning for him is one heartbreak on top of another. David Harbour? Anna Faris? Linda Cardellini? Jack doing everything he can to try and keep Ennis in his life but Ennis always having shit to do is devastating for Jack. Them both wanting to let each other go but not being able to truely broke something inside of me. Ennis trying to fight off Jack but then collapsing into his arms is so symbolic. Jack being murdered from being gay just like the story Ennis told make me want to die. Ennis going back to Jacks old room and finding the clothes from there first brokeback mountain trip and then being in the same condition and Ennis keeping them…ughhhh i can’t. Ennis crying looking at the shirt and postcard is the absolute cherry on top of an already heartbreaking piece of cinema. This is such a subtlety heartbreaking film and the worst part is that this is real life. People are treated this way just for loving someone and it’s truly disgusting.
