Spider-Man: Homecoming
The nostalgia I feel while watching this movie is insane. I still remember myself at 12 years old watching this movie in theaters with my brother, dad and uncle, in one of those bougie theaters with the nice red leather chairs that recline electrically.
To me this movie is a great introduction to what Spider-Man should be, Tom fits the role of Spider-Man perfectly, an awkward 15 year old teenager that is awkward and is growing into who he is as a person. I like the supporting cast, Ned, flash, Bettie, happy, aunt may, Mr. Harrington the goat. I think they are all great castings and I really enjoy the humor and jokes that feel natural throughout the movie and to me I feel nostalgic watching the movie, it takes me back to middle school and the good era of the MCU. It has a very strong and in my opinion the best spiderman villain since the original trilogy. Michael Keaton is ruthless and in a way I see him as not a pure evil villain, at the end of the day you could reason with him and see his point of view. He’s a working class man that was fed up and pissed with being taken advantage of by the elites like Toney Stark. In this eyes he’s just trying to provide for his family. Where it becomes corrupted is his justification of selling dangerous weapons and hurting people to make some cash which contradicts Peter’s beliefs of protecting people even with the “flawed system” that Keaton speaks about.
This movie also has a super underrated plot twist that nobody talks about, how toomes is the vulture. You see Peter all excited and it just drops when Liz’s dad opens the door. The shock in his face, the suspense, and that car scene with the red light is insane, one of the best of all the Tom holland movies.
A lot of people complain about this being a iron man movie, that spider man is supposed to be a teenager with no technology, more traditional, more like Tobey Maguries spiderman, but I argue that he fits the mold of the MCU and it’s a good way to get him interwoven into it all. It also builds on the future films, can he get out of iron man’s shadow, how is he gonna figure things out. Things like this worked themselves out as the films went on and I am very excited for brand new day because this is the spiderman the people have been asking for.
