Challengers
i can’t believe this is the first movie i’m not giving above 4 stars to. IT WON AA GOLDEN GLOBE. i honestly don’t know what to say other than the entire story just pissed me off. i loved looking at it. cinematography was gorgeous. i really wanted the guys to go to pound town together instead of wasting time on tashi. and i know the ending is a symbolic bow to tie up the entire story. BUT GOOOD I HATED EVERYBODY. I HATED THEM ALL! U GUYS ARE SHITTY PEOPLE! anyways i dont know shit about tennis and i didn’t learn jack diddly shit other than u sweat like ur in a sauna. ok i’m done.
EDIT!! i had friends disagree and wanted further clarification SOOO> to be fair, everyone has a difference of opinion and art is art so it's FINE that i don't like it and other people do but i WILLL explain. a few things i did like about the movie is that it was filmed beautifully. it was rich in color and the shots were very eye catching so i did absolutely love the cinematography. and there were parts about the relating tennis to their real life complex situations was intriguing so i liked that! but overall, the pacing of the movie was very strange for me. and i felt like they wanted to have these very complex characters but didn't quite??? flesh it out enough for me. by the end of the movie i felt like i was left just wanting to know more. what about art's injury?? tashi's pregnancy?? patrick's fall off and the transgressions of that?? i felt the focus was so heavily of the betrayal of art and patrick's friendship since they were twelve and how tennis and tashi played a part in that without ever actually TRULY unpacking it in a deeper extent. i felt like you lived in that subtext instead of actually LEARNING the things you truly wanted to know
