Persona
Perhaps Elisabet was indeed in perfect health, and Alma ended up being the mentally unstable one trying to figure out what was wrong with a perfectly healthy woman.
This movie goes trough a lot of themes, some more deeply that others, but I think it was overall un-flawed. This movie and I are now in a toxic relationship together as it’s un-replaceable and un-forgettable, really.
In my opinion the ending showed Elisabet’s son trying to lure her attention towards him, and her snapping, sweating and wanting to laugh as she realises she’s never going to be able to run away from him and her life destined to include motherhood. Perhaps that is why she hid herself in that establishment, refusing to talk as it’d make it real.
And to purely assume things : I’d say Alma wasn’t as sane as she thought and that she despised her fiancée and their relationship. Maybe did she even terribly envy Elisabet and her family. Maybe she hated her for having and hating the life she desired so deeply.
Anyways, I highly recommend this film. Its only flaw is that after watching it, you’ll realise most of the others movies you’ve seen or will see aren’t as great.
