High and Low
Gondo proved himself virtuous to the very end; it's not often one sees a man sacrifice so much for the sake of a life, and it is precisely in this aspect that he triumphs over Ginjiro, who, in an attempt to humiliate Gondo, actually exalted him and made everyone who followed the case see the best qualities of this man who fought so hard to get where he got.
The most interesting point of this film is precisely how Kurosawa explores the virtues of a Samurai in a modern setting, virtues that can be observed in Gondo himself, in the journalists covering the case, and especially in the police officers who are truly genuine to the essence of their vocations, unlike Ginjiro, who is a kind of corrupter of his profession, a doctor who kills through drugs without getting his hands dirty.
