Flipped
"Hey, have you flipped? What's the matter with you?"
This has been on my watchlist for MONTHS and i saw that it was added to netflix and i knew i finally had to cave in and watch it. I haven't before this really dove into the masterpieces that the loved Rob Reiner directed, but now i truly understand that his films contain moments that have you wishing that something showing on your screen could happen to you, but also finding relatable moments within these characters.
As embarrassing as this may seem, this reminded me a lot of my childhood. I saw myself so much in Juli Baker, she was just a kid with a longtime crush on a boy who took a little to long to understand that she's a lot different than what they stereotyped her as. Mention Juli & Bryce's story ended a lot better than mine did in real life, but i find something so sweet on remembering those moments that this movie reminded me of.
Showing the dynamics in both families showed how their home life, the life no one sees behind closed doors can really shape someone's early life. Bryce in the beginning was a reflection of his father, judgmental and quick to make an assumption on someone without getting to know them. But as his grandfather, Chet, came into the picture, he started looking at life around him a little differently. Yes he had flaws, but i think that's why makes this character so special, he's got that boyish charm that i know if i went to school with him in middle school, i would've totally liked him. But throughout his moments, what truly made Bryce a better person, was that he brought Juli a new beloved sycamore tree.
