Black Dynamite
**Black History Month Series #13
**
"I'm gonna shake the tree from the roots and rake up the fruits... rip it up out the ground, find out what's going down. Don't worry about tomorrow Mama, because tonight...
"...Dynamite's gonna make everything alright!"
"EUPHORIA, SHUT THE FUCK UP! I KNOW THAT WAS YOU, I AIN'T EVEN GOTTA LOOK!"
A gut-busting love-letter to the blaxploitation era of cinema - and some of 70s-era film culture in general. All the stops were made here. The over-the-top acting! The ballsy action sequences! The boom mic! The funky soundtrack! The general clothing aesthetic! At the core of this adventure is a stellar leading turn from Michael Jai White, in a role that showcases his kung-fu skills more than any other project can (or has). The stacked cast of supporting talent plays this production straightforward as possible: Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley, Salli Richardson, Arsenio Hall, Cedric Yarbrough, etc... everybody in this is hilarious. Speaking of, the comedy in this? Top-tier. Scene-after-scene hit for me, but that diner scene (where Black Dynamite's team figures out the antagonist's true motives with their... malt liquor, which I'll never look at the same again) had to be one of the best parts. I royally laughed my ass off a lot, which is pretty rare for the latest comedies I've seen.
Overall, one of the funniest features I've seen to date, so much so that it'll make my top 4 favorite of the month! I'll definitely have to check out the animated series next.
