Maurice
"Music is about death. It always has been."
Maurice is a film of missed chances, passion, hope, and regret. It's a period piece that unashamedly portrays a story of forbidden love and two people who could never find peace as themselves in the society they live in.
Contrary to popular opinion, I think this film's slow pacing works well, delivering the feeling of agony. The mundanity, constant yearning, and hope for something more, was the entire point of the movie. It puts us all in Maurice's shoes, which made his story more compelling and his feelings more valid.
It's a 5/5 film for me, I didn't want to miss a single second of it because of the engaging story and deeply troubled characters. It leaves the audience to think of what could have been.
Also, Risley is such an entertaining yapper, I wish we could've seen more of him.
Happy pride month🌈
