Kicking & Screaming
I have a very strong connection with Kicking & Screaming. When I was 10 years old, I got a portable DVD player for Christmas. I don’t think I was really into movies when I got it. I got the holiday box set of Nickelodeon shows which features all their Christmas or Christmas adjacent specials. I don’t really understand the purpose of that, because you’re only really watching those one week of the year. I’d rather watch any other episode of Jimmy Neutron. The portable DVD player could be used as an actual DVD player which I thought was cool. It was only until I went to the bootleg Blockbuster that my mind opened to what possibilities I could use the portable DVD player for. I remember seeing a big poster for Alice in Wonderland and thinking “I don’t want to see that.” I don’t think I have seen it yet, honestly. Anyways I took out three movies of my choice: The Dr. Dolittle 1 to 3 box set, Austin Powers: Gold Member, and Kicking & Screaming. I think I felt every human emotion watching those five movies back to back on my bedroom floor at 2pm on a summer's day. I remember the day, because it was one of those summer days from your childhood that just seemed brighter. Cicadas were going nuts. And I didn’t leave my bedroom floor, lying on my tummy like a seal, until 1 in the morning. I remember ending with Kicking & Screaming. I was so tired, but I was laughing my ass off. “Pass it to the Italians!” was on loop in my head that night. I booted it up the next morning, and the morning after that. I’d start my day with a double chocolate muffin, a hot chocolate, and Kicking & Screaming. No wonder I was fat. I think it’s amazing that this sick addiction I have started with Will Ferrel’s often forgotten soccer comedy. Thank you, Kicking & Screaming. You changed my life.
