Boyhood
i really enjoy when a film feels like it encompasses a characters’ entire life, and this is the absolute epitome of that. this is just life put to screen and i have such a soft spot for that. not only does it capture what life really looks like but also how it feels (at least how it’s always felt for me); almost constant movement and confusion and being talked down to by adults who aren’t happy with their own lives. all of that is sprinkled with moments here and there that make you appreciate all of it, and that show you who you want to be. it also helps that the pop culture markers of mason’s life were the same as my own from movies like star wars and harry potter to music like soulja boy to riding around on a ripstick. ethan hawke is incredible, most of the child actors are great, and richard linklater proves himself to me (again) to be a director that is impressively effective at portraying REAL life.
p.s. so surprised to see how many ppl i follow on here that don’t like this movie at all, but i guess that’s what’s so interesting about art
