this is ridiculously beautiful. Colman Domingo probably has the best performance of the year so far. every aspect of the movie felt incredibly real and heartfelt from the performances to the texture; whether it was shot on film or film emulation i don’t know. this gets to the heart of what incarceration strips away from human beings while also managing to highlight black joy, self exploration, and the boldness it requires to be something that life has convinced you that you cannot be
