It’s my last day with my cousins back in Poland, and we decided wanted to watch a movie together. After some scrolling I asked if they’ve had ever seen Star Wars. The answer was no, and after their mum said they were allowed to watch It I put on New Hope, because that’s just the movie you watch when you first watch Star Wars. Just like my dad put me on Star Wars with a New Hope 🥲. So we watched the movie, in Polish because they’re 9 and 11 so It’s just easier for them.
Before saying what they thought of It, I want to call out how rewatching this movie made me realize how long I haven’t watched Star Wars actually. Like I said, my Dad made me watch a New Hope and eventually the rest of the original trilogy, but that’s already 8 years ago. And I think that’s the only I’ve actually watched original Star Wars. And I didn’t really liked It that much, especially not this film because It was too “quintessential” and too “old” for me then. So that really amazed me and I’m definitely gonna rewatch the rest of the trilogy very soon aswell. Watching this just felt really nonstalgic idk.
Anyway, let’s get into my thoughts (and my cousins). Yeah this movies special effects aren’t top notch, yes it’s corny sometimes and yes it might not be the best acting of all time but come on man, how can you not absolutely fucking love this movie?? This movie is cinema, this is an all great, It’s in the hall of fame of classics. And there’s a reason so.
I mean first of all world building Is just fantastic, how George Lucas just put his fantasy on the screen like that is fantastic. John Williams gave some of the most iconic, most beautiful and best soundtracks of all time. Every character Is obviously amazing and watching this movie is soooo fun. The pacing is amazing, every scene is just legendary and just wow man. I’m so glad I finally revisited this movie, cause I can appreciate so much more now since I’m older. Only the sometimes bad looking special effects hold me back from giving this a 5/5🥲 (might be a 5/5 anyway idk yet). But the most fun in this movie definitely was watching how my cousins were enjoying It. I mean watching Star Wars is a canon event, and to experience that Canon Event with them is just amazing. One of them was constantly jumping up and down out of excitement while the other one was cheering for Luke, praying that he would destroy the Death Star. He literally said “Come on Luke, you’re the final hope”. Afterwards the other one was still jumping in excitement and they were happily telling everyone how much the movie. Very unfortunate that I have to leave tomorrow morning cause I would’ve loved to watch the other movies with them, and especially see their reaction to “I am your father”.
