Very good movie and very deserving of Best Picture. I wish I watched this before the Oscars so I would have been rooting for a good movie. The dad was probably the best character, he was hilarious and looks just like James Eugene Russel, he loves sex too. I thought the choir teacher was going to be insufferable at first, but he was a great character and meant a lot to the movie. The movie was La La Land-esque again, but was just missing “it.” I will definitely continue to rewatch. The turning moment equivalent to the pool splash in La La Land is probably the dad signing the story about the condom, very funny and the drama that ensues was pivotal in the movie. It was genius to cut out the audio during the fall concert duet. Abruptly seeing the perspective of her parents, and the actors reality constantly, was very impactful. Similarly, it was touching when Ruby began to sign during her audition. It seemed obvious that it was coming, but I never did. The song choices, “Both Sides Now” and “You’re All I Need To Get By” were both very fitting for living life in the garaging and deaf worlds, and talking to her dad about the fishing business respectively. The last half an hour of the move was phenomenal and could cement it as a great movie forever.
