This film was incredibly fresh, I haven’t quite seen anything like it before, especially in recent years. It was very much reminiscent of a campfire story, and the ending definitely contributes a lot to that feeling. It does a lot to make you feel like it’s building towards a conclusion or reveal that will leave you with a message, just to subvert that expectation and leave you with something that is in the truest form in and of itself just a story.
The plot was very rich and the structure was very effective; while the use of repeated scenes shown in the perspective of different characters began to feel a little overdone, the final couple acts definitely amped up the film and took away any sort of melancholy I might have started to experience otherwise. And the humor was just incredibly placed, it managed to feel incredibly thrilling and funny at the same time without it ever seeming like they used humor as a cop out to make up for an inability to derive entertainment from the main plot.
And I have to mention how incredible the scene depicting all of the children fleeing home was, the song choice was absolutely perfect and visually it was just so insanely cool.
Definitely gonna rewatch this one soon.
