Fun fact: did you guys know that studio Daiei originally wanted to make a movie called **Nezura**, about **giant mutant rats**? It completely failed because they **bought** **thousands of LIVE rats** for the set, which led to a total sanitary nightmare, fleas, and yada yada yada… The miniature city sets were already built, the money was spent, and then while flying in a plane, **Nagata** saw **a cloud shaped like a turtle **and thought: “Turtles live long, they’re popular in mythology. Let’s make a flying, fire-breathing turtle!” **And that’s how we got Gamera**. Ah, Godzilla and Gamera… **one** embodies **Japan’s national tragedy**, while the **other** is pure **popcorn and a business plan**. 🙂↕️ But! I’m not one of those fans who ranks one above the other. Even though this movie was made simply because Daiei was jealous of Toho and **wanted a slice of that kaiju pie**, Gamera still turned into a great franchise of its own. It’s definitely unusual for me to watch a kaiju film not made by Toho, but I found myself quite enjoying this. **Black-and-white monster movies are my absolute jam**! That gritty, even accidental atmosphere, and those shots where a massive Gamera peeks out from behind buildings? Hell yeah! While I didn’t find any deep philosophical meaning here like I’m used to in **Ishiro Honda**’s films (trust me, I tried), I can totally see how Gamera becomes a solid “Friend of all Children.” The way he saved little Toshio warmed my heart. And lmao, he’s a real fucking fan! The way he glazes Gamera the entire movie and even gets himself a little pet turtle.☝️🐢 **Gamera** himself **is strong as fuck**. Nothing works on him. Not fire (well, obviously, cuz he literally breathes fire), not electricity, not even a freeze bomb! The only possible way to defeat him was to ship our bro off to Mars in a giant rocket!! Hello??? That’s a hell of a kaiju right here, guys! This definitely hooked me, and I’m super excited to check out the next movies with this guy. **P.S.** That fucking iconic moment when they flip **Gamera** on his back and think they won, but he’s just like “Hell nah” and straight-up **flies into the air with fire shooting out of all his shell holes**? WTF??? Fucking amazing.

Bruu i am so incredibly soft for **Gezora**, like look at those **big goofy eyes**, he is an absolute cutie and I refuse to perceive him as a threat lmfao. But my absolute favorite has to be **Kamoebas**, probably because she kinda looks like **Anguirus** and you already know he is my literal **GOAT**. Honestly though, I felt so bad for the poor animals that got possessed by **Yog**. Imagine you’re just a chill little sea creature minding your business and PUFFF! **A cosmic amoeba takes over your brain, turns you into a giant, and forces you to go on a rampage**. That being said, I lowkey missed the **classic Showa-era alien invader tropes**. Toho is seriously obsessed with them and im not mad abt it! **The final showdown **between the crab and the turtle was absolute FIRE. The way **Kamoebas** was biting him while **Ganimes** tried to chop her head off with his claw... god, **I fucking love old-school suitmation so much**. It’s a crime that this movie is so incredibly underrated and barely anyone knows about it. It even makes me a bit emotional to think that this was the **very last "pure" standalone kaiju film of Toho's golden era**.

Bruu, I was today years old when I realized **Mechani-Kong came BEFORE MechaGodzilla**... like, what the actual hell??? To be honest, I’ve never been the biggest fan of King Kong (and no, it’s not because **he’s** absolute **trash in the MonsterVerse**). I just always found the core concept of his story kind of weird and creepy. A **massive**, hairy **ape** purely driven by primal instincts **falling in love** with a beautiful woman… I mean, we all know **he doesn’t just want to "hold her hand,"** right? Because of that, the whole Kong franchise has always given me major mehhh since I was a kid. But if I shut my eyes to the plot and just look at the film itself, it’s actually a top-tier action flick for its time. There’s something happening every single second, whether it’s human spy drama or Kong throwing hands with his mechanical clone. AND OH MY GOD, HOW COULD I FORGET: **the legendary debut of Gorosaurus**!! His suit looked like they actually spent the entire budget on it, absolutely incredible. Honestly, I think I enjoyed Kong's fight against him a bit more than the final battle, especially **that iconic kangaroo kick**. Man, it really made me miss my **era of binge-watching every single Godzilla movie**...🥲 Anyway, I’m getting sidetracked again lmfao. Okay, there’s not much else to say except that this is a solid, fun action movie for Kong fans, especially if you also happen to dig cheesy evil geniuses and giant robots. For me, it was... okayish.🙃🙃

I am telling you, this is **the most terrifying kaiju movie of ALL DAMN TIME**. **Gaira** is easily the most **ruthless**, **disgusting** **kaiju** **ever**. Like, where else have you seen Toho straight-up showing** a monster EATING people**??? I was literally sitting there with my jaw on the floor after that scene where he just grabs a woman, fucking eats her, and then **spits out a piece of **her** chewed-up clothes**… And his design? Absolute nightmare fuel. I’ve always found the whole "**hairy wild man**" look **creepy**, but here he’s giant, savage, and everything is shot in this horribly dark atmosphere. Like... imagine you’re just chilling in your bedroom, you look out the window, and there’s this **massive hairy giant staring at you from the dark**, LITERALLY **WANTING TO CONSUME YOU**. I feel like Toho poured their entire souls into making this an unforgettable horror, and they absolutely nailed it. **I'm definitely sleeping with my blanket over my head for the next few nights. ** The plot didn't disappoint either. It tackles that classic **philosophical question**: **Nature vs. Nurture**. You have **two monsters with identical DNA** who grew up in completely opposite environments. **Sanda** was raised with love and care by humans, so he became **a protector**. Meanwhile, **Gaira** grew up in the dark, fighting for survival on a "**kill or be killed**" (or literally, **eat or be eaten**) basis, which turned him into **a monster**. But what I definitely didn't expect was for this movie to make me emotional, especially after all that horror. That ending... man. Watching **Sanda fight his own brother **while **crying** because he **doesn’t want to kill him**, but knowing he’s completely beyond saving and **choosing to protect humanity instead**... He's right there, almost winning, about to land the final blow, and then **BAM **- this stupid **volcanic eruption** happens and **kills them both**. No matter how creepy Sanda looked on the outside, he was a genuine **good guy**, and i really feel bad for him. But im sorry… **GARGANTUAS HAD TO GO**✌️ **P.S. **Also, did you know there's a reference to **this movie** in **Kill Bill Vol. 2**? 🙌
