Titanic
Titanic (1997) DIR. James Cameron
oh how you touch the tear ducts and knock the souls of me and my wife’s hearts, James Cameron. Touched our souls so deep. This movie reaches me in an area of me that I feel nothing else ever has. The message of love and the depth of the feeling and the sensation brought to me has reached me
like nothing I’ve ever witnessed, the feeling of pure love this 3am watch has left me with not only reminds me of what love is no matter what kind but how it actually means more than one can ever know and describe to love someone as much as is portrayed in this masterpiece.
This is delivered and touches me the most when Jack goes to dinner.
“Well, yes, ma'am, I do... I mean, I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count”
This monologue that Jack delivers, is a message and an indirect call to what you’re supposed to do with the life that you are given, as you only have one. You only have one life, so why would you not love it to the way you need to. Your soul has a path and a direction for you to go through and no matter how many wrong turns one makes you will always get back to the right one no matter your off the beaten one for. No matter where you are all you need is not knowing what’s around the next corner not knowing an agenda, because you really don’t know what life throws at you. All you really need in life is to be lower deck dancing with no rehearsal and spilling pints with no care. You will always no matter who you are never belong in upper class talking about mindless topics and laughing at the most brain dead comments. You will always need to be with the people you love, who you trust more than yourself you will always need you lower deck way more than yourself fake upper class small-talk. All you need is the people you love.
Titanic really speaks to me as a passage of what your soul truly feels, it isn’t just a story about love, or a tale of the tragedy of 1912, it’s about the gravity and power that love brings to the world and why humans exist and what they exist for.
Titanic (1997) - most beautifully heart-wrenching love story and the way that this epic echoes my soul through this masterpiece of cinema.
4.5/5 - where the heart is where you belong in your lower deck.
Signing off. Daniel Potter. Love is all you need.
