Halloween
As far as i’m concerned this is simply the greatest bottom of the barrel budget horror film ever - like not even glazing, the budget for Halloween isn’t even more than half of a million dollars. It’s just shy of 330,000 USD while making 70 million USD in the box office.
There is a certainty behind this cheapness though because we’re handed one of the most grounded performances ever by Jamie Lee Curtis within the final act of this film, and even Michael Myers himself - who, for the record, doesn’t even fucking talk. More on the perspective of Michael Myers, he’s without a doubt the most iconic fictional serial killer of all time… and it all started from this one movie. Suspense is built outer-worldly, the score is repetitive but mildly iconic, attention to detail in 90% of the shots and major/minor scenes is phenomenal and you get a lot more than you’d bargain for in terms of filmmaking. Halloween is just simply that gritty horror-slasher experience that everybody wishes for.
