Every scene is both masterfully composed and perfectly sequenced, thematic chainlinks echoing across generations and cities. If life can only be fully understood in its entire context, Yang exalts cinema as time-collapsing machine capable of unlocking the requisite missing perspectives. A call for openness and compassion, foremost toward ourselves. It's practically impossible not to wax poetic about this; no fewer than a half dozen moments that are among the most quietly moving of any film I've seen.
