Cure
Instagram Edits. Ofc, has led me to watch plenty of movies and yea, just few random edits were enough to make me want to watch this movie. Koji Yakusho is an actor who completely enamored with his masterpiece, Perfect Days. So, I knew he was a very capable actor and this is literally my first movie from, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, so I knew it was gonna be something special and holy god in heaven.
Cure by Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a psychological horror that follows a detective tracking a series of identical murders with nothing in common between them. It plays as both crime story that has its atmosphere very gripping and also philosophically haunting.
Kiyoshi loves his static wide shots that let the audience properly soak the chaos and dread of the atmosphere created by his movie. The lack of bgm creates a sense of hollowness and adds a lot of tension to the scene itself. His visual metaphors are amazing as well.
Koji Yakusho is a phenomenal here, a detective who trying to solve the mystery while keeping his inner demons aside. He shows his frustration and the built up pressure that boils within him burst with such intensity, he breathes this character. A guy who can switch or flip anytime as he gets more engrossed in the case.
Masato Hagiwara plays a suspect amnesiac who might have a hand in these chain of murders and he truly plays a great role here where you can barely tell if he is actually amnesiac or if he is just playing the part. He does great work here keeping you on the edge of your sit.
Personally, I didn't like the movie or more accurate, I didn't like how it made me feel, the movie seeps and crawls into your skin and it doesn't let you go. The atmosphere is too bleak and Kiyoshi makes you introspect with his open ending that feels torturous and cruel. I love the movie but I hate how I feel at the end of this journey.
