Sinners
Before the guy bagged his oscar, I was stalling on this movie for quite a while since I initially dismissed it not being worth my time. (I was super busy). Even so, I was wondering what was all the hype surrounding it. Now, since Michael B Jordan winning the Oscars has grabbed my attention, I decide to go for this movie finally to see what's the fuss about.
Sinners, I have to say is a fantastic movie that built up slowly and ended with a bang. The screenplay is slick and doesn't deviate much. Especially, during its second act. Btw, the switch between screen ratio changing some of the moments really is such a niche touch.
Michael B Jordan as both Stack and Smoke is such a blast to watch. He adds such little subtleties for the twin which makes them distinct but not that much for the viewers to address that the actor is "playing twin". It looks seemless and props to him for making it look easy with both twin oozing a certain swagger and confidence.
The rest of the cast is also fantastic. Especially, Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku. And props to Miles Caton's voice. I found his voice particularly solid af.
I liked how movie made so many metaphors and themes related to oppression of culture and identity while still being hella entertaining.
The music here is hands down best of the year. The album is amazing and the vocals are so melodic and strong. I'm late but I'm falling in love with the album of the movie. My personal favs are "Rocky Road to Dublin" and "Pale, Pale moon"
I might not agree with Jordan winning the award for the best actor but that doesn't discount the fact that he is amazing in it. Plus, this movie is simply amazing and Ryan Coogler cooked something special here and I loved every second of it
