Hamnet
my emotional stability did not survive this film because Jessie Buckley actually went insane in this, like not loud awards-bait acting but the kind where she’s using her entire nervous system and every stare feels like it could start a thunderstorm. the grief in her performance feels so physical it’s kinda scary to watch. also the blond kid playing hamnet?? barely saying anything yet somehow the whole film emotionally orbits around him and the quiet softness he brings makes everything hurt twice as hard. having Chloé Zhao direct this is lowkey a cheat code too because she just lets silence cook. scenes sit there, wind moving through grass, people breathing, grief hanging in the air until you realize oh… this film is actually beating my ass emotionally. and the cinematography?? muted greens, foggy fields, soft candlelight, everything looking like a dusty renaissance painting that somehow learned how to cry. grief, atmosphere, and vibes but somehow it slaps.
