Carol
it's been a while since i saw a movie or anything with actual queer romance, let alone lesbian romance, and watching this did mean a lot to me.
this is a really beautiful story all throughout. the atmosphere is heavy yet soft – in every scene with carol and therese, in every shared look, there's a tender longing hanging in the air that becomes just painful when it happens after they were separated. the 50s aesthetic is romantic, albeit chaining the characters themselves down with the vintage values. the story itself is really simple and there may not be a lot to the plot, but it really leaves an impression on you. happy holidays.
