"doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?"
*"IT'S SHITE BEING SCOTTISH! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of the fucking EARTH. The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilisation!
Some people hate the English, i don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONISED by wankers. We can't even find a decent culture to be colonised by. We're ruled by effete arseholes. *
It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Tommy. And all the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference !"
woooow this hits close to home! they way this movie played around w filming techniques along w prop play to showcase the effects of drugs and even the effects of withdrawal was effective! i loved the music and vibes throughout the film as it felt authentic and accurate to how it can be in Scotland, especially how drugs are our biggest issue to this day. it's a topic that is still important and showcased well in this film i feel, as an outsider perspective at least (since i don't live it myself but see it frequently). when watching this, i was writing down a lot of notes. more than any film i've watched yet. being Scottish and living in Scotland, i was fearful abt the portrayals and the accuracy but unfortunately this was a pretty good depiction. i also liked that they touched on topics like AIDS and even the LGBTQ+ community(etc) as it's important for its time and to this day also! i thought i wouldn't like this film but i truly enjoyed the filming and overall plot though stories like this aren't usually for me. I'm also biased bc im scottish and love seeing the representation even if its meant to be bad but honestly i don't think it was all bad with how the ending turned out.
"1000 years from now, there'll be no guys and no girls, just wankers. Sounds great to me!"
