Tampopo
chest day. bowl of noodles. one of the greatest films ever made. never kill yourself.
ok I gotta write an actual review cause this movie is that good. Most of the time, when I give a film five stars its some melancholic, 150 minute anti-drama about the collapse of a family or some shit, but Tampopo is really just a flawless film. In the inverse of Emilia Perez, I had a big ass grin across my face for the entire runtime. well not the entire runtime there’s some sad bits, but most of it. And when she finally got the ramen right at the end of the movie, I hootered. I hollered. I clapped. From the first minute of this film, I knew i was in for something special. And there’s really not many movies as fun as this. Interspersed with the main story about Tampopo learning to be a true ramen cook, we get little fun food-related vignettes, some funny, some sad, some sexual. And it took me a bit to really get the purpose of the vignettes, but theres a great one near the end that ties it all together. Theres some stuff that our characters want to say but can’t, and go unspoken, but food is truly the universal language. It unites all. At the end of the day, everybody eats. I can appreciate some Indian food despite not speaking a word of Hindi, and I’m sure a shaman in the mountains of Uttarakhand could say the same about some Kiwi dish. I’m really rambling, I don’t have much else to say. Go watch this film, it’s probably the easiest watch I could ever recommend. You won’t be disappointed.
